Abstract
Perinatal depression is a diagnosis associated with potentially debilitating and far-reaching health consequences for both mother and infant. Although research demonstrates a much higher prevalence of perinatal depression in adolescents compared to adults, a significant gap exists within the literature regarding the particular factors that increase an adolescent’s risk of developing this condition. As a result, this project seeks to answer the question: How can nurse practitioners in British Columbia identify adolescents at risk for perinatal depression to improve assessment and facilitate earlier interventions?
