SAFETY DURING YOUR FESTIVE SEASON A Fire Department is maintained for the purpose of saving lives and property in the community it serves. One of the best ways of accomplish- ing this is by PREVENTING as many fires as possible - lives and pro- perty are never lost in fires that de not happen, During this Festive Season, please be careful of Fire Hazards. 1. Do NOT smoke in bed. 2. Turn out tree lights before re- tiring or leaving your home. 3. Remove wrapping paper from your home as soon as possible. 4, Empty your ash trays often, out- side, not in inside garbage collect- ors. 5. Provide amle ashtrays for your- selves and guests. 6. Do NOT overload electrical circuits. Give specific instructions to your baby sitters in the event of a Fire Emergency. Bubbling tree lights contain Methylene Chloride - poisonous if ingested. Also: Fire salts, used to make coloured flames on burning logs con- tain Metalic compounds - toxic if eaten or if fumes are inhaled. Another Fire Hazard: Mixing angel hair and snow spray on a tree. Both items are advertised es non- flamable. In combination they be- come so flammable that a touch of flame sends them into a burst of fire. Because holiday decorations make this an intensified fire hazard season, work out and rehearse a fam- ily fire escape plan, Nothing kills holiday joy like a ride to the hospital emergency room - or a need to call out the Fire Department.
