Business Undergraduate ‘Student Society by Jeramy Fung The Business Undergraduate Student Society (BUGSS) was formed in November 1997. The main goals of the society are to provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas, to represent the students in the busi- ness administration faculty, and to act as a liaison between the business undergradu- ate students, the facul- ty of business adminis- tration, the administra- tion, and the public. The organization was formed while the busi- ness program at UNBC was going through a rough period. At the time many students were worried that they would not be able to graduate with a busi- ness degree. A group effort involving the administration, the business faculty, and the business students has resulted in a strong business program that will continue to grow as UNBC grows. This year marks the true beginning — for BUGSS as confidence in the program grows, they can plan more social events and work towards links with the Prince George busi- ness community. BUGSS will soon be a member of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce. This mem- bership allows the future business lead- ers of the area to attend Chamber events, such as infor- mational seminars. Currently the main pri- ority of BUGSS is to send 46 students to the University Business Games (UBG) in London, Ontario. The UBG is an annual event hosted by Westem University. It brings together 920 Canadian _ business students to compete in a weekend of games. The events this year are: a fun debate, jeop- ardy, a university feud, taboo, touch football, ultimate frisbee, soft- ball, and road hockey. Many of Canada’s major corporations will be in attendance at these games, head hunting for future employees. The UBG is an excellent way to network, chances are you will be working with some of the stu- dents in attendance if you plan to work in the business world. There are currently 20 UNBC business majors who are signed up for this competition, however, another 26 must sign up before October 16th or the team will be unable to attend. BUGSS is preparing a formal dinner with a guest speaker for some time this year. This event will raise funds for members to attend conferences, and to introduce mem- bers of the community to the students, They are also working on a display board to pro- vide members with information on upcom- ing events. lf you are interested in attending UBG or inter- ested in joining the Bus) ne 6 5 Undergraduate Student Society you can contact Jeremy via email at fungj000@unbe.ca.
