bie, M.L.A. and Jas. Paul, J.P. were also present. In presenting the medal, Judge Wood- burn spoke highly of Inspector Duncan’s record of nearly thirty-three years’ service in the B. C. Police and of his opening the first police station at Pouce Coupe in 1914, where for some years he was the sole representative of all branches of the Provincial Government. He also referred to his previous service in the R.N.W.M.P. and Mounted Police in South Africa. Thanking the Judge for the presenta- tion and his esteemed remarks, Inspector Duncan spoke of the long record of the B.C. Police, the oldest Provincial Force in Canada. He traced its development froma mere handful of men in 1858 to its present strength of four hundred. Origin- ally a rural force policing unorganized territory, it was now carrying out police duties in forty two cities and municipali- ties in the province. The medal has been awarded to forty-one members of the force, besides some others who have re- tired on pension. Mr. Jos. Corsbie, M.L.A. also spoke in glowing terms of Inspector Duncan's career as a police officer and referred to him as one of the pioneers of the Peace River Block, who had helped to pave the way for the many settlers that have brought the country to its present stage of development.
