Ken Smith - “I have just recently moved to Cassiar, and would have to say | don’t like the hours. | guess I’m still used to the conveniences of a city.”” al soya one Marlene Shipley - “’! would prefer to see the bank opening at 11:30 a.m. This way most businesses could be through for people who have to bank during their lunch hour. | find the service is fine.” Frances Thibeault - “! am not satisfied with the hours. Since 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. is the busiest time at the office the banking has to be done during one of our lunch breaks. Service is good though.” Gigie McGlynn - “I live at Erickson and find the hours are at a very inconvenient time. Because of long line-ups | have to take my children in with me, which is hard when it ends up taking up to half an hour to do my banking.” Aiden McGlynn had no comment but you could say a picture tells a thousand words. : = | Vicki Willis - “! do a lot of banking for clubs in town and | don’t like the hours. Noon to two is just too busy a time. Fridays are just crazy! | think something like 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. would be better.” Cassiar Courier November 1987 Page 9 THE BANK’S COMMENTS Rick Gabel, Bank Manager, is well aware of the problems some people are encountering at the bank. He knows there are long line-ups on Fridays, particularly on pay days, and that clients become frustrated when they have to wait. He explained that the cutback in banking hours has come about because the Royal Bank in Cassiar is serving a smaller population. In 1983 the bank served approximately 2500 clients with a full-time staff of nine and during 1986-87 clientele has dropped to about the thousand mark with a full-time staff of six. A “FasDeposit” arrived last week. This is a “depository” whereby clients can make “deposits only”’, ie. pay phone and Visa accounts, and transfer funds be- tween accounts - anything that does not involve receiving “cash”, merely by enclosing the appropriate deposit slip or cheques in an envelope and depositing in the “‘FasDe- posit”. :These transactions are then completed after hours. When asked about the installation of a banking machine, Gabel explained this had been considered, but would not be viable because of servicing. The closest technician would be in Prince George or Fort St. John. Gabel realizes that people on day shift must-do banking during lunch hours, but does suggest that, if pos- sible, others may avoid line-ups by banking between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. On Fridays the bank is busiest between noon and 1:45 p.m. After that and on most other days of the week, line-ups are minimal. He does remind people that some banking can be done by telephone during off-hours, and if people would complete deposit and withdrawal slips beforehand, (keep a supply at home), the line-ups would move more quickly. Gabel does not see an extension of the .banking hours in the near future. ‘he bank has been short-statted the past two months, but now that they are back to six people, seven on Fridays, he hopes that some of the problems will be alleviated. Cecile-Gayle Terris - “I think the service is excellent, but the girls are overworked. The fast deposit is good and shows they are trying. | would like to see the hours increased to 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. during the week and 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Fridays.” © © 000000000000 HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHS OE The winning entries will be published in the December Courier and prizes will be awarded at the Elementary School Christmas Concert. © Entries should be delivered to the Courier Office before November 18th Georgina Meers - “‘No, | am not satisfied with them!
