officials welcomed the offer of the
Rangers to aid in searches for lost
persons, either with the use of dogs,
or an all-man hunt, on the lower
island. It was the same service the
B.C. Police Force took advantage of
before the Mounties took over.

The two hounds, Sir Roderick of
Ogden and his son, Joe, of pedigreed
stock, were acquired during the last
three years after the Rangers, dis-
banded after a valuable wartime role
as guardians of Greater Victoria’s
backwoods from enemy infiltration,
organized the voluntary public service.

On very short notice today, the
Rangers, who come from the business,
professional and labor worlds, can
quickly mobilize an emergency force
to take the trail. These men offer
their services free .. . and being away
from the job lose money. But their
hearts are bigger than that and they
