Pariah Project Desolation Pariah Project, an up and coming band out of Vancouver is the brain child of creators Allan Skeatc Rerone 2001 Cleator (guitars, samples, programming) and Taryn Laronge (vocals). Their debut EP Desolation is a aS moody, ethereal piece of dark wave, that combines guitar, cello and electronic elements. | could best describe the music as ‘gothy’ Sarah McLachlan blended with mellow downbeat industrial like Enigma. This is not actually a bad thing, as the result is a surprisingly easy to listen to EP. The songs all seem to echo with the same sort of deeply heartfelt and slightly macabre feeling; without seeming insincere or overly melodramatic, which seems to be the downfall of many bands in the genre. The secret is the fact that while the songs are technically complex they are put together in a way that still keeps the sound sparse and atmospheric. Look for Pariah Project to appear on some upcoming Cleopatra Records compilations if you’re looking to get your hands on more of their stuff. ---Kathleen De Vere / Glasshead Glasshead This 10 track CD was quickly released between tours for this Punk Band originally from Kitimat, BC. Identity Records 2001 This CD includes many new tracks, as well as a remastered and re-recorded track from their single “24 Hour Boy” which is currently on MuchMusic. It is rather short, and there are tracks that are lack- ing in lyrical content. Other good songs on this CD include such tracks as “Big Blue Sky”, “Nothing But A Loser’ and “Michelle”, and their cover of Lita Ford’s “Kiss Me Deadly” was fairly well done, even though Nerf Herder’s was better. In short, this CD was fairly decent and a fairly good release. Glasshead have the ability to keep their music fresh, and the tunes catchy, without sounding like they have oversimplified everything into a verse, chorus, verse format. This is not nearly as good as their debut album “thirteen”, however this is probably the best album to come out of Identity Records in the last year. ---Joe Bowser Moneyshot Just past now This CD might as well be used as a Frisbee. This punk band’s newest CD has a very weak intro- Identity: Records 2001 duction, and it is annoying to hear the lead singer’s voice go through so many different effects. | am single one of their ill gained effects pedals on this album. It sounds like they used anything they - could get their hands on. In addition, the tracks on this CD are sort of in punk limbo. They’re too PF peaceful to be considered hardcore, and they are not nearly melodic enough to be considered emo- ‘ tional hardcore. If you are a fan of this BC Punk band, you will most likely be very disappointed by @ this release, since it doesn’t even compare to “A vision of things to come” or the old Another _ ® Casualty demo tapes. ---Joe Bowser Wishing Well Intervals Recently the band Wishing Well came up from Vernon to Prince George to start their 2001 Cross- Spawner Becuide 2001 Canada tour to promote this new album. This album, however is a clear evolution of their simple emotional hardcore-punk lyrics into a more thought out musical structure. While emotional hardcore wishing well may not be the taste of everyone, this CD is a perfect example that not all punk sounds the same, intervals especially with the acoustic tracks not normally found on a CD put out by a Emotional hardcore punk band. This CD is one of the better releases from Spawner Records, and if you are a fan of Emotional hardcore, or if you would like punk if it “wasn’t so loud”, then this CD is probably for you. The band’s favorite tracks from this new CD included tracks such as “Jimmy Doggit” and “The Day In the Life of a Captive Heart”. However, if you don’t like emotional hardcore, you won't like this CD. ---Joe Bowser
