What can | say about them? The words boring and crap come to mind right off the mark. Another one of Fred Durst’s discoveries that impress only the easily impressed and those who dislike thinking. Puddle of Mudd lays it all out for the listener in an easy to understand format; why bur- den the listener with needless metaphors if you don’t have to? POM strikes me as the kind of band that is easily confused when people use big words like originality and lyrical content. I’m afraid they have a bargain basement sound, with a bargain basement singer, and bargain basement content, all of which can be purchased at any Wal-Mart. POM can join the ranks of such underwhelming radio icons like Default and Creed. Chant with me now! Muddle of Pudd, Muddle of Pudd, Muddle of Pudd, Muddle of Pudd. Destrudo Stutterfly Hollow Independent 2001 Formerly known as “Uncle Ed’s Private Jet”, stutterfly has made a big name for itself in the Okanagan. The Kelowna based “melodicore” band’s Hollow EP is very impressive, especially in the originality of their sound. Not only are the lyrics well-written, but each member of the band is extremely talented creating an amazing finished product. The soft melodic voice of Chris (lead vocalist) combined with the loud, but skillfully integrated, backup vocals pro- vide the band with their very unique sound. Although much more mainstream than some of their newer music, this CD is original and definitely worth a lis- ten. Hear it by visiting their website (http://www.stutterfly.com/) and/or go see them when they come to town on October 24th during their tour with Glasshead (details will be available on website). Shawn Jackson WWF Tough Enough Soundtrack Dreamworks 2001 When | first saw this | was rather skeptical about how good a WWF sound- track would be. Since | don’t have cable | had never even seen the show so | wasn't really sure what to expect. Amazingly enough, this CD is really great. Its got tons of radio hits, so it’s a perfect party CD. The tracks read like a new-metal sampler, with stuff from Alien Ant Farm, Godsmack, Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, and many other popular bands, and there are also a few lesser known bands like Pressure 4-5 and Big Mother Thruster. For the most part the whole CD is an upbeat mix. One of the best tracks is probably Mudvayne’s endlessly inventive ‘Dig’. This CD is perfect if your looking for a party mix or just to find some new metal bands that you might like. Kathleen
