@ Years of experience in the design and
production of marine radio - communication
equipment has enabled Northern to build into
the N501 Transmitter and N600 Receiver all of
the features desirable in a modern marine in-
stallation. Absolute dependability, simplicity
of operation and high electrical efficiency are
inherent characteristics.

The N501 Transmitter is designed for opera-
tion on any five frequencies within the range
specified. A conservatively rated power output
of 65 watts is available on each frequency. This
power is adequate to insure reliable communi-
cation under adverse weather conditions.

Operation of the transmitter-receiver is sim-
plified by a press-to-talk switch on the handset
or microphone. This one switch provides in-
stantaneous change between Transmit and Re-
ceive conditions. Each transmitting frequency
is completely pre-tuned and is selected by sim-
ply rotating the Frequency Selector knob on the
front panel.

Both the N501 Transmitter and N600 Re-
ceiver will operate normally with either side of
the ships’ battery at ground potential, or with
a completey non-grounded or floating system.
The NOOO Receiver is a complete unit in itself
and operates directly from the ships’ battery
without the use of a power supply.

The high sensitivity and selectivity of the
NOOO Receiver provides reception of weak sig-

nals with an absolute minimum of interference
from static and unwanted stations. A separate
oscillator tube eliminates the nuisance of con-
stant retuning to overcome receiver frequency
drift. The frequency range is 550 to 4300 ke.,
which includes the broadeast band for enter-
tainment purposes.

High efficiency is realized through careful
design and the most effective utilization of
power. This means reduced battery drain, more
economical operation and improved perform-
ance, all factors of vital importance, particu-
larly in installations on small marine craft.

Careful design, complete attention to detail
and fine craftsmanship signally qualify the
Northern N501 Transmitter and N600 Re-
ceiver for use on all types of commercial and
pleasure craft.

available equipped with a 20 Watt Marine Hail-
