labels such as Polygram -
somewhat limiting their evo-
lution. When this contract
expired, Therapy? began to
look for a label which would
give them access to interna-
tional markets such as
Japan, America and
Australia. Ark21 immediately
signed them after hearing
their initial recording session
for Suicide Pact in England.
The Ark21 deal also drew
producer Head, who has the
previous credit of working
with PJ Harvey and Flood.

Head, claims the band, was
remarkably flexible and had
the general attitude that “if
you know the songs inside

out, I'll set up the micro-
phones and you play them.”
This allowed the band to
break out the restraints which
had been placed on them
through their previous corpo-
rate contracts.
