Blue Man Group perform at the CN Centre TABATHA LuNDHOLM Arts Epiror It would be really easy to just write “Holy cow!!” and “Ohmigod!” over and over when talking about the Blue Man Group, but that wouldn’t be very informative or enlightening at all, would it? Not only is it a great experience for any age, but it’s also a. really enlightening show, filled with lots of sparkles and colour for those of us with short attention spans. Kids were there, older, more bitter people were there, and also everyone in between. It’s almost needless to say that this group is made up of three blue men, all wearing very gooey-looking bright blue grease- paint on their heads, and covered in black clothing from the neck down. But what is not needless to say is that they’re ex- tremely skilled musicians who originally make all their own instruments that they play, and are ALSO backed by a wicked- cool band. Three percussionists, two guitar players, a bass player, a keyboardist, a DJ or two, and the singers. Not to mention the Blue Men themselves, who play a variety of instruments, mostly percussion, but also strings, and these neat-o whippum sticks. Neon lights, a huge gong-like drum, constant gags and audience participation, and really amazing music all combine to make the Blue Man Group one of the best shows in North America, maybe even the world!! Ok, let’s not go overboard, back to the topic... Opening for the wannabe-smurfs was a DJ from San Fran- cisco named Mike Relm. Now, to say he’s the best scratcher I’ve ever seen would be overkill. But one of the most enter- taining and imaginative would be an accurate description. The Pee-Wee Herman scratch was pretty good, especially for the kids, but what came after was better. Immigrant Song by our OVER THE EDGE October 10-14, 2007 Mircs Grant, Proro Epiror Blue Us Away dear Led Zeppelin was torn up like there was no tomorrow. I actually squealed when it started. Mike Relm was also a team player in the Darfur awareness ads. He ended his bit with a sing-a-long like no other. So not only was the show hilarious, but it was also really, really, really phenomenal. There’s just nothing like looking beside you and having a blue man staring right at you, not saying a word. They were all a bit like any comedic threesome, from the Three Stooges, to Snap, Crackle, and Pop. There was the ser- ious one, the medium one, and then the hilarious one that al- ways gets into crazy hijinx with fire extinguishers and dancing all mental. I think we all learnt how to be a megastar that night. 4/5 Stars!
