WHERE IS CASSIAR? The property of Cassiar Asbestos Corporation Limited is located in north central British Columbia. An 87 mile road links Cassiar to the Alaska High- way atapoint 13 miles west of Watson Lake, Yukon Territories. From Vancouver, the route is by Trans-Canada Highway as far as Cache Creek, then Highway 97 through Prince George to Dawson Creek and the Alaska Highway to the Cassiar Road cutoff; adistance of 1,482 miles. Those proceeding from Edmonton would take Highway 43 to Valleyview, then via Highway 34 to Dawson Creek and onto the Alaska highway, a total dis- tance of 1,103 miles to Cassiar. The Alaska Highway was built in 1942 by the U.S. Army Engineers. It is a wide, well-graded road of gravel construction and is open the year round. However, those planning to take this route to Cassiar are advised to drive with due caution and before leaving, to acquaint themselves with the locations where there are sleeping and eating facilities. The road to Cassiar from its junction with the Alaska Highway is part of the proposed road to Stewart on the Paci- fic Coast, a link which it is hoped will be completed within a few years. Air service is provided daily by Can- adian Pacific Air Lines from Vancouver to Watson Lake and return, with a feeder service from Edmonton via Fort St. John. Bus transportation to the property at Cassiar is provided by the Company.
