Published monthly by Cassiar Asbestos Corporation Limited OBITUARIES It is with regret that we announce the passing of Kenneth William Pryor, a long time Cassiar resident, who died in Cassiar Private Hospital on June 8th after a short illness. His death is attributed to a heart attack. A well-known figure throughout the Yukon and northern B.C., Mr. Pryor was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1910, of Scottish and English parentage. In 1919 the family moved to Canada. Mr. Pryor was raised and educated at Powell River, B.C. After several years mining in B.C. and Ontario, he moved to Whitehorse, Yukon, in 1942, where he entered the trucking business. In 1955 Mr. Pryor took the contract for hauling wood for the Cassiar mine, where he has lived ever since. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a host of friends in the Yukon and northern B.C. mourn his loss. He is survived by his widow, Lillian, and son Edward, who is attending school at Fort St. John, B.C. Funeral services were held at Cassiar on Saturday, June 10th. * * * * * Melvin Bernard Pete Tashoots Cassiar residents express their sorrow and condolence to the Jack Pete family on the loss of their son, Melvin, by drown- ing near Cassiar on June 4th, 1967. A popular student at the local school, Melvin possessed artistic talents in sketching and music. His attendance around the community centre and his willingness and ability to participate in social functions will be missed. Melvin was born March 22nd, 1949, at Telegraph Creek, B.C. NATIONAL CENTENNIAL SCHOOL ATHLETIC AWARD Recently the children attending Cassiar school were tested for the Centennial Athletic Award. The tests consist of three compulsory and one voluntary test. All tests have a standard set for each age group and an award system for each test; gold, silver and bronze. For a child to be awarded the gold, he or she had to perform to the gold standards on all the tests, otherwise the lowest award of the lowest standard was given. Example: Sit-ups - gold, Broad Jump - gold, 300 yard run - bronze, and Cross-country - silver; - the bronze would be awarded. The following are our gold award winners: Gr. IX Diane Coron Gr.
