Thus, the Local Centennial Committee again got to work on plans for a summer outing. The date was set for Saturday, June 26th, before vacations began. It was a fortunate choice since even the weather cooperated and all the events were blessed with brilliant sunshine. This day's celebration also came at a time when Cassiar's opera- ting and mill construction personnel needed a break after the pressures of trying to get the new mill into operation during recent months. It was a day to remember. CHAIN LAKE REGATTA DAY At 7:30 a.m, in the early mor- ning sunlight, the first of the drivers in the ROAD RALLY struggled down to the starting line. The Rally had been well planned with a dozen carefully concealed check points, eached manned with a competent time keeper. Clues to the various checkpoints were given the entrants and one by one they were sent off from the starting place at the Community Center. Meanwhile, at. the Lion's Chain Lake Campground, éarly morning work crews arranged booths, a kitchen and counter, the Volleyball area, a first aid station and other important faci- lities. A bus service from the town- site made it possible for those with out cars to travel to the campground. In the early afternoon several hundred Cassiarites and visitors had assembled and it was easy to see the Lion'’s Campground had never been so populated, The booths were doing a great business. At the conclusion of the Rally, our Cassiar children's drum corps performed and gave a rendition of music that was the fitting opening of the Regatta Day activities. a . a 10°
