Anime Review

Gokudo vs. (Insert Sucky
Thing Here, ie. Garlic Enimas)

Gokudo Swordsman
Extraordinaire, is the tale of
the “Worlds worst Hero”,
whom after the series is titled.
In the first episode, Gokudo is
warned by a mysterious old
woman that he is to be hunted
by a very evil man (insert
spooky music here). Gokudo,
being the arrogant fop that he
is, laughs at the old woman
and steals her purse, hoping
to get some swag. Much to his
chagrin (and the chagrin of the
viewers, assuming they know
how to chagrin), he finds no
money in the purse, but
instead he finds and ancient
genie trapped inside a.........
rock? What?(cue audience
astonishment)

The genie, as genies do, is
compelled to grant Gokudo
three wishes. Now that seems
easy enough, right? Turns out
that said genie is a Zen bud-
dhist, and refuses to grant
wishes that are based on shal-
low, material desires. So
rather than just giving Gokudo
his wishes, the Genie (aptly
named Genie) follows him on
his exploits, which include
magic swords and magical sex
changes.

And that’s just. the first
episode. (Cue Oooh-ing)

Well, what can | say, this
series is cute. You can take
that anyway you want; if you
like cute, this series is cute. If
you despise cute things more

than having a banana stuffed
up your arse during recon-
structive dental surgery, then
guess what, this series is still
cute.

The animation is a derivative
of FLCL, chocked full of
seizure-inducing flashing
lights and jerky movement,
and the dubbing is actually tol-
erable, unlike a certain anime |
reviewed last time, for anyone
that actually reads the anime
review (Mom, | know you're
out there). There are “girls”
anime, and their are “boys”
anime. Gokudo: Swordsman is
somewhere in between, with

enough poorly _ scripted,
armor-clad monsters and
explosions to keep little

Johnny Otaku interested, and
enough cutsie-poo and gener-
al hanky-panky to keep little
Suzy Otaku entertained.

Batman.
