Victorians 2-to-1 Favor Hanging

Victorians from all walks of life
favor by almost a two-to-one margin
the death penalty for premeditated
murder and drug peddling—and one
angry woman demanded return of the
public stocks for lesser crimes.

“The death penalty is the only dis-
cipline left in our modern society,”
said one man who was expressing the
majority opinion of business men,
workers and housewives.

A random survey was taken after
the House of Commons in London
voted 245 to 214 to continue capital
punishment in Britain despite the
