DUE FOR FEE HIKES

VICTORIA - Increases in hunting and fishing
licence fees-ranging up to 800 per cent

have been recommended by the Fish and Wild=-
life Branch.

A statement released Friday by the
branch said the recommendations to Recrea*=
tion and Conservation Minister Jack Radford
are the result of increased management
costs since the last fee adjustments
several years ago.

Under the proposed new system it-will
be set out on a hunter's licence whether he
is a B.C. resident, a Canadian resident or
a non-resident of either the province or
the country.

The $] fee.for a firearms licence -
which allows a person to carry a firearm
but not to hunt - will remain unchanged,
but a hunting licence for a B.C. or
Canadian resident would jump from $4 to $7.
For a non-resident the fee would go from
$25 to °S#5;

In addition, species licences would
replace tag licences and fees would be
payable before a hunting expedition.

Trophy fees would be eliminated and @
there would be no refund on a species
licence payment if the hunter failed to
bag his game. .

For B.C. residents, species' licences
would cost as follows - present figures
appear in brackets: Black bear $4 ($.50);
cariboo $10 ($5); cougar $10 ($5); deer $4
($1); elk $10 ($5); grizzly bear $35 ($10);
moose $10 ($6); mountain goat $15 ($2);

For residents of other Canadian

Under the recommendations proposed by
the Fish and Wildlife Branch, the age limit
for fishing licences would be reduced to
16 and anglers under 16 would be able to
fish free of charge. Non B.C. residents
would be able to fish for free if
accompanied by a member of their family in
possession of a valid angler's licence.

Under Angler's Licence fees proposed,
the senior citizen would still pay only sl,
but B.C. residents would pay $5 compared
to the present $3 for angler's licence and
$3 compared to the $2 for a steelhead
licence.

Non-resident Canadians would also pay
$5 for an angler's licence but non-
Canadians would pay $6 compared’ with the
present $3.50.

For non-British Columbians and non-

Canadians, the steelhead licencé would cost:

$10 compared to the present $5 and new
categories of special lakes and rivers
licences would be created costing $15 and
$25 respectively.

A spokesman for the Fish and Wildlife
Branch said it is hoped that the provincial
government will adopt the proposed changes

at present and its raining when you get up

We had a Little excitement in the stone
the other day, they found a box of dynamite
but no one knew where it came ‘from.

Last week was a funny one, fust as I
got to the stone they decided to Lock the
doors. They wouldn't Let anyone in on out,
At was packed full of Indonesians and some-
one had stoken a watch. They called the
pokice who searched all the men and women.
Can you tmagine that happening in Cassianr.
Over here no one argues with the police,
they pack submachine guns, and all kinds of
automatic weapons.

On $resh vegetable day, which is seldom
and 4§ you can get into the stone (and its
worth your kife) fust as fast as you put
artickes in your basket some dame will be
taking them out.

The stone manager had to separate two
Ladies who were punching each other in the
face over a cucumber.

Some of the things that go on here are
unbelievable. One day I was standing,
wating for the store to open, as the doors
opened £25 women fought to get in the stone,
they knocked down several women and tram-
pled right on top of them; they were
Screaming and bkood flying all over the
place. One was even standing up on the bin
throwing vegetables to her friends. I've
Seen better behavior amongst animals.

We ane getting quite a collection of

bugs and they are huge, only seeing is

believing.

I am enclosing a picture of Len and his
helpers. Look friendly don't they, would
probably eat him given the chance. I wonder
how a nice fat Ukranian boy taste!

Perhaps the man with no experience is
justified in asking for a higher wage, the
work is much harder when you don't know
what you are doing.
