Who will be in charge this April?

While it won’t be a suprise as to who
the 2011/2012 NUGSS board mem-
bers are (as most of them run un-
apposed) here is a breakdown of all
the positions and the student who rep-
resents them. The new board mem-

| am honoured and excited to be entering the position of President for
the coming term on NUGSS. Many thanks to everyone who came out

at UNBC, | have had the opportunity to be involved with many projects

There are concerns among students that NUGSS does not communicate
effectively and that there is a lack of transparency. Once in office, one of
the first jobs | will tackle is ensuring our mediums of communication are
assessed and improved upon. There are many questions---are students
best reached on Facebook? Twitter? E-mail? Face to face? | must admit
that | am a novice to the world of Twitter! As much as we can improve our
lines of communication, we also encourage you to seek information about
the going-ons of your student government. Check out our website, find us
on Facebook, stop by the office for a chat...follow us on Twitter? | promise
to become Twitter savvy.

There are some specific projects that | will be working on during my
term. There has been a groundswell of activity surrounding local food
| am SO impressed by everyone who is doing this work.
NUGSS will continue to play an active role in ensuring the success of the
University Farmer’s Market and will also look at other avenues to integrate
local foods into the NUSC. NUGSS puts on great events---the annual
Backyard BBQ, the Jump Back to New Year’s Party, and Winterfest, to
name a few. Something we have not done much of in the past is host
forums and speakers.
| have many other ideas but | am interested in hearing what YOU
want NUGSS to do---stay tuned for some polling and other avenues for
you to provide feedback.
