Through the barred window puffs and flur- ries of snow danced in the flickering blue light of the arc lamps on Louise Street. “Boys, ['m getting out of here.” Whirling to their feet the guards gazed into the blue muzzle of an automatic. Be- hind it Krefchenko’s face was set and livid. “Into that closet there,” he snarled, back- ing Reid towards the door, “‘and don’t blow that whistle!” When Flower hesitated Krefchenko fixed him with a look so full of hate and deadly resolution that he stumbled white-faced into the closet. The sensation caused by the escape of the prisoner had raised the caustic ire of newspapers and citizens alike. Quickly a royal commission snapped into action. Const. Reid, under suspicion for complicity in aiding the escape, faced his inquisitors with calm self-possession, which gradually Superior Service GROTTO CIGAR STORE Wholesale and Retail Tobacconist * Prince Rupert, B.C.
