The location of the old trail between Spirit
River and Pouce Coupe was through considerably we
country and was almost impassable for summer traffic.

struectea between these two soints, but on which steel

settlers were allicwed to make any improvements on the

mission was granted last spring with e proevise that
shoule the grade required at any time the rails

of the grade to the Pouee Coupe river in seetion 26-7S-
i¢, Was opeact out ané greded curing the summer. <A fair
bridge of wooden structure spans the Pouce Coupe river
et this point. The apsreech to the river from the
westerly side is easy, but the grade on the exsterly
benk of the river is very steep. From the river wester-
iy to the main road between Pouce Coupe and Rolia, the
reac fellows along section lines and is generaliy in good
eondition.

Goupe, farm implements, provisions, etce, are freishted
ine Also this read is used considerably during the
winter monthe by settlers from Fort St.dchn and Hudson
Hope, *ho come down the Peace River to the Ponce Coupe
ianding and then over this route to the railway at
Spirit River.«
