November 23, 1998 Apology to Office Manager | am writing this letter in response to a letter that was written by Marki Sellers. There is not a lot that | can say about this issue besides the fact that | feel | do my job as the Office Manager of the NesO. ir ite neee: Tr IN Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS) to the best of my abilities. | feel that in the last three years | have gained the respect from the admin- istration as well as the majority of the students at UNBC. | take my job very seriously because this is my chosen pro- fession, my chosen career. | am hurt by the accusations that were made but | feel J still have the support of other directors and | can't let one person affect me in this way. With this comment | would like to refer to a section of a director’s report submitted by the Vice President Jamie Campbell, which gives me some confidence that | am appreciated by the others. “Finally, | would like to give a special thanks to April Williams, the Office Manager of the Nob tah "er on Undergraduate Student Society. She was of great assistance to me this summer, as well as during the Backyard Barbecue and subse- quent events. Her knowledge and experi- ence of the Society are perhaps the greatest asset we have to make use of as Directors. She is an asset that we often take for granted, and | would like to see this change. She is due a large modicum of respect, something she does not always receive. | have never seen such a level of dedication to the Society that April Williams displays. If we as directors showed the LETTERS same level of dedica- tion, this Student Society would be an amazing institution, to be emulated by soci- eties everywhere. There have been many times where any other person would have given up and quit, | am grateful that April has had the courage to stick with us.” In addition, the editor of the newsletter in which Marki’s letter was pub- lished has also been told to write a retraction and apology to be sub- mitted to and published in Over the Edge. | believe this retraction and apology will be pub- lished in the December 7, 1998 issue of Over the Edge. April Williams Office Manager UNBC Northern Undergraduate Student Society NUGSS supports office manager During the board of Directors meeting on Friday, November 20, 1998, a vote was held to determine the confi- dence the Directors had in April Williams. The outcome of the secret ballot was unanimously, 8 to 0, in favour of the Board’s confidence in April Williams. The Board is confident in April Williams as the office manager for the NEormineht shoe aren Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS). Christopher McNelly Ombudsperson Niso- i thetes rn in Undergraduate Student Society The gas fairy who fills my tank every night |, like many students, drive my truck to school every day and |, like many students, never seem to have enough money. My lack of money seems to be most pressing when | pull up to the pump to feed my gas-guzzling beast of burden. Yet | have found some relief from my financial woes. The answer of how to get from A to B with a limited budget is to be found in old interior BC folklore. The particular tale that | am referring to is the so called myth of the gas fairy. This helpful sprite sneaks around at night filling the gas tanks of the needy and respectful. When | first discovered this helpful angel of mercy, | was at first skeptical, as the leg- ends call for one to place a can of beans under one’s pillow, and to recite the words “Now | sleep until the light; | pray you fill my tank tonight”. Upon trying it, however, | was amazed to discover the folk tale was true, for the next morning my truck had been refilled, and | could travel to school in com- fort and decadent luxury. | don’t question the how or why; my faith in the gas fairy is absolute. In this way you too can beat the spend the win- ter in fiscal security. David Mahoney Over The Edge Page 5 ~DOYOUR OPINIONS COUNTY WILL SOMEONE ACTUALLY PAY YOU FOR YOUR OPINION? YES, WE WILL.
