4 REC NEWS First of all I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Ken Akey, Andy Yandro and myself, Frank McLean, and the part time staff of the Rec. Hall to wish all the readers of the Asbestos Sheet the very best in the New Year and we sincerely hope that this will be your year for participation in some of the activities at the Rec. Hall. In the evening of the 22nd, the teen- agers Christmas Party was held in the form of a skating party and dance. This was thoroughly enjoyed by those that came and thanks to Jerry Greyke and Kenny Peat for supplying the dance music. Due to my being informed of the death of my mother I had to leave for Vancouver and was unable to attend the New Years Eve Party and Dance but I would like to thank Mr. Graham Baker and my staff for taking over the final organizing of the Dance on such short notice and also I would like to apologize to those who have mentioned that it was rather poorly run, this I believe was due to my leaving and the staff having to take over a big job without much warning so once again my sincere apologies for any inconveniences I may have caused by my having to leave. A games room has been put in operation in the Rec. Hall for the use of those who would like to play cards or chess, checkers etc. Cards are available at the Rec Hall office with a small deposit required until returned. Indoor shooting should take a new twist this year with the arrival of bows and arrows and the expected arrival of an in- door backstop soon, so if interested in either .22 caliber shooting or bow and arrow drop down any Monday evening at 8:30 P.M. and see about joining the club. The Badminton Club has been re- organized and they play every Tuesday night starting at 8:00 P.M. there is room for a lot more players both experienced who want to learn the game. Skate sharpening can be done by con- tacting the staff at the Rec. Hall. Due to the number of movies held in the Rec. Hall our time for some activities is quite limited, but if any of you have suggestions for some form of recreation that you think a number would be interested in please feel free to discuss it with me at the office and perhaps something can be worked out. I would like to mention that we do have carpet bowling equipment on order which we expect any day now and hope to form some kind of league when it arrives A date to remember February 9th. Why? A Valentines dance will be hald in the Rec. Hall so line up your favorite Valentine and come on out for some good times. We too have a date to keep open that is February 16th. On that date we will take over the Rec. Hall and hold a giant bazaar with games of chance, bingos, raffles, and best of all fun for the whole family and those who are living in single quarters. There will be lots of surprises in store for you during this gala affair with the idea being to raise money for artificial ice in the arena for next winter if every one gets behind your arena rink associa™ tion and each gives a small nudge this soon becomes a big push and before you know it we have the machinery for Ice and what a joy that will be not to have to worry about old man weather any more. So be there on the 16th and be prepared to give your little nudge. We have been very fortunate this year, - first by having the ice in real early so we have had lots of hockey and public skating and by the looks of it we should soon be getting some outside teams in for the senior men to play against. One thing to remember is that when it is public skating time there are to be no sticks or pucks on the Ice. There is plenty of time for hockey alloted so please let those that prefer just to skate have their time as well. The Arena lounge has been well used this year with the sno-machine club holding a couple of dances and the teenagers as well and a special thanks go out to the ladies Mrs. Tischler (both of them) and Mrs. McLean for a job well done on keeping it as clean as it fs. This by the way is on a volunteer basis (all in the cause of artificial Ice).
