The Cannabis _ action group dedicated one day - at the university where community members can freely listen, learn and par- ticipate in a conference promoting the plant Cannabis Sativa. The Cannabis action group wants to actively explore Northern British Columbia's diversification and job creation options. They have set out to pro- vide a free conference highlighting speakers with various Cannabis back- grounds, including dis- plays of wares and cre- ations. The action group will delve into the history and the future of the Cannabis Sativa plant. They have chosen to focus on two priority topics, the plant's industrial and med- icinal options. Participants may then pursue and gain knowledge specifically ori- ented to their present interests. With an historical introduction to the plant and a closing forum with all of the speakers present as one panel to answer Rai. The seed has been planted... questions, we hope to cover all of this plant's potentials and all of its drawbacks. There are several con- firmed speakers to date. Brian Taylor, the Mayor of Grand Forks, and James Strauss, Alternative Party Leader and Master Herbalist, will speak about industrial and medicinal Cannabis. Dave Ryan, of Smithers, and UNBC_ Professor, Jane Young will speak on behalf of the Gitsegukla Hemp Research Project near Hazelton. Dave Cull will be speaking about and exhibiting his work with "hemp drywall construc- tion" and Darlene Mulholland, a local Prince George Weaver, will be on hand to demonstrate hemp weaving on her portable loom. Various retail outlets will be dis- playing their hemp related © products, a_ talented Quesnel specialty wood carver will be present and hemp food will be avail- able.
