On a recent tour of the new Government Build- ing in Cassiar we noticed a large area set aside for the Public Health Nurse. It is ironic that a year ago we had a full-time Public Health Nurse work- © ing out of a tiny office and now we have these lovely offices and a Public Health Nurse who comes in to cover Cassiar, Good Hope Lake and Dease Lake area four days of each month — sometimes five. This is progress???? With so much recent concern about the environ- ment in this area, you would think that the health of “THE PEOPLE” would receive some priority. PREG REI REF REF ABE NE _ injured. af 3 Brinco Expands In early November 1980 Brinco became 71% Canadian owned, its major shareholders being Olympia & York Development with 51% and Rio Tino-Zinc Corporation with 24%. f .The assets of Brinco are roughly two-thirds min- ing and one-third oil and gas. Cassiar Resources Ltd., now some 98% owned by Brinco, forms a significant part of these mining interests and will become part of Brinco’s mining, exploration and development group, to be called Brinco Mining Ltd. This will be based in Vancou- ver and have Mr. J. D. Little as President and Mr. J. C. O’Rourke as Executive Vice-President. Brinco Mining Ltd., will include all the assets of both Cassiar Resources Ltd. and Brinex Ltd. The most significant exploration and development projects include participation in Jead, zinc and silver joint ventures in Central Newfoundland and the Yukon and a major interest in a uranium pro- ject in Labrador: In addition, acquisitions of a coal property in Kentucky and an interest’ in the former San Antonio Gold Mine in Manitoba have been undertaken in the last six months. BR ACIC IACI IE CIEE AK IE I AE, RCMP NEWS | _ The driver, George ae of Oregon was not vor & 19 Dec 1980 - An Arrow transport hauling Cas- siar fibre went off the road on the right side, over- turning in the ditch. This happened on the Cassiar road at about 6% mile. The driver was not injured. Several smaller accidents were also reported dur- ing the December period, but there were no in- juries. 18 Dec. 1980 - George Holman reported that several items had been removed from his semi- truck before it was removed from Hwy. No. 37> near Cottonwood. 19 Dec. 1980 - We received a complaint of a fight at the Cassiar Lounge, and it is still under investigation. , ’ 24 Dec. 1980 - Frank Fudge of Cassiar reported that $1000 had been stolen from his bunkhouse overnight. A Cassiar man has been charged with. the offence. 1 Jan 1981 - A fight took place at the Newyears ~ Eve Dance, and a Whitehorse man was arrested and charges are to be laid. Bruce Robson Kellie previously of Cassiar was charged at Cassiar on 24 June 1980, with shoot- ing a dog without lawful excuse. He had the charge waived to Vancouver, and entered a guilty plea and received an absolute discharge. James Darcey Brown previously of Cassiar was charged at Cassiar on 24 Nov. 1979 with theft under $200, on the 13th day of May 1980 with theft of telecommunications services and on 13 May 1980 with possession of a narcotic.
