Activities at the Community Centre

A Chess Tournament is under
wav since last week with 15''Brain-
masters’ taking part in it. The
games will have all of them playing
against each other. At Ftmanski,
another master of the chess game,

{is the organizer and supervises the
tournament. The photo with the name
of the winner will be in the next
month's issue.

Another tournament-A shuffle-
board tournament will start next
week with prizes for the winner.
This is the first time such a tour-
nament has heen organized, and it
seems that manv adepts of that game
will particinate. Harrv Gereau, the
organizer, declares that it will he
a big success. considering the
many entries already in.

Meetings-The numerous meetings
of clubs and associations, which
have heen held in the Club Room for
the past few weeks, prove that all
those committee members are really
active in their respective field of
recreation. Let us name a few:
the Ski Club, the Snowmobile Club,
the Hockey Association, and the
Chess Club. There is no doubt that
everybody will benefit by the var-
ious activities put on or to come.

Dance-The Valentine Dance, this
year, will be on Saturday. Februarv
13,1971. As last vear, the Union
will organize it and there is no
doubt that it will be another hig
success. That's a dance not to
miss?

A meddling old woman accused one
of the contractor's engineers of
having reverted to drink because
“with her own eves" she had seen
his company car parked outside a
tavern.

The accused man made no verbal de-
fense, but the following evening
he placed that same company car in
front of her house and left it all
night.

Cassiar Drum Carpe

Thanks to the generous support
from the Lions Club and private in-
dividuals, the drum corns is now off
and running.

Lessons have hegun and some in-
struments are now on order. There
is still a need for sunnort thouzh,
hoth financially and in the recruit-
ine of more handsmen.

This band will he a hie hoost
to our communitv especiallv in the
centennial vear that has already
overtaken us.

The trainine of the handsmen and
the instruments are supplied, at no
charge, bv the hand.

To be a handsman, the only re-
quirement is that vou are in Crades
4 to 9 and have a desire to learn.
We will do the rest.

Lets get hehind this eroun and
give them the supnort thev need and
deserve.

The Senior League's teams have
already been playing for 3 weeks and
results of the games show that this

year the three teams are well hal-
anced.

Asbestos Kings

Our All Star Team went to Wat-
son Lake on Saturdav. December 12.
to plav our neighbour's All Stars.
The Kines, who were not vet in good
shape due to lack of nractices, were
defeated 15 to 19. A returm match
at home has been scheduled for this
comming week-end.
