24 R. Rueetes Gates anp Gro. E. Darsy.—Blood Groups and potency to the end, as proved by tests made finally on two white nurses who were known to- be respectively A and B. Twelve individuals were re-tested after an interval of some time. They all gave the same result in both cases except one, a boy of two years, who tested O at first. and A on the second trial. He was very “ white ” in appearance and possibly the agglutinogen. was late in developing. The general blood group results are shown in Table 1, the individuals being classified according to their various villages and tribes. It will be seen that A has risen from 12-7 per cent. in our results to 23-6 per cent. in theirs. The aim in our tests was to take the older generation as far as possible, so that few children were included, while theirs included a larger number of the younger generation. The greater frequency of A and B in their results indicates an increase of white blood in the younger generation. The y? test shows that the difference is significant. This is in harmony with expectation on other grounds. Something will now be said of the various Indian groups at present occurring in this area. As may be seen from the ethnological map published by Goddard (1924), these Indian groups - occupy successive positions down the coast, beginning with the northernmost Kwakiutl village of Kitamaat, which is in contact with the Tsimshians on the north. This large village of nearly 300 people is at the head of a long inlet and should therefore be more isolated. It is. 150 miles north of Bella Bella. The language is like that of Bella Bella, but the vocabulary differs and there is a distinctive intonation. On Gardner Canal, some 50 miles south from.
