16 The formation is given its name from the occurrence of a quartz porphyry intrusive on the Kitchener mineral claim on Proserpine moun- tain. Lithology. All the acidic sills and dykes which cut the Cariboo series have been grouped as the Proserpine intrusives. The examiration of thin sections from exposures in several parts of the area shows that there is a variety of petrographical types, but owing to limited exposures and the alteration of the rocks it was found inadvisable to attempt to classify them more closely. Quartz porphyry, felsite, aplite, and quartz latite are prevalent types. Their outcrops are charactéeristically iron-stained, due to the oxidation of NW ee AN iy A Bra, BU gs Proserpine felsite sills 7 Knotted black Slate, Cariboo series \\ Brown aréillite, Car/ooo series Waverly Reservoir : Witrs ean | , ANN Geological Survey, Canada Ass \ Figure 1.
