Page 4 roww GOUuUNErEL TOWN COUNCIL MEETINGS Cassiar Town Council are off to a good start this year with a good lively group of directors. It is the intention of the Council to meet with various individuals responsible for public services in Cassiar to become more knowledgeable about our town and its people. The first meeting was with Corporal Bob Fitzsimmons which was very informative about the duties of our local police force. As they are frequently out of the office for various reasons, there is an answering device in the office that will tape your message and it will be. answered when the officer returns. Speeding in the town site was discussed and Corporal - Fitzsimmons encouraged the Council members to report all speeding incidents to his office and he will lay a charge on this offender. He also mentioned that unlicensed dogs at large on the streets can bé destroyed and that he has never seen so many dogs running loose as there are in this town of ours. Let's clean it up! explain some of the future plans of the Company that would directly affect the townsite. Mr. Thornicroft explained that most of the budget proposals have been approved in principal. It has been a continual argument each year. to find a place to hold the meetings and I give a lot of credit to the people that look after these various organizations. Most people would have given up long ago. But there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel and we have found a house for these various organizations.. It will require a few alterations but the Town Council are quite convinced that with very little effort it can be made into an ideal spot for the meetings of Cubs, Brownies, Cadets and Sunday school. We are referring to the old junior staff house at 230 Kennedy Street where the Town Council, along with a few volunteers, have a good start on the remodelling. If you have a couple of spare hours, come out and give them a helping hand. - Cassiar Town Council Mm. O@OLDACH WILL BE IN CASSIAR . MARCH 22, 3,4,5,6 nts Phone 778-7477 12 2% SSD BSD WH iS — c 2 a wei) YOUR PETS has 30 days before the late licence fee For the convenience of the residents of Cassiar you can purchase your dog licence at the Town Administration Office. Your 1976 licence is due on January lst, 1976. THREE DOLLAR LICENES ($3.00) 1. Any neutered male dog, Z. Any male dog weighing 8 pounds or less, 3. Any female dog which is spayed. A certificate mst be shown in order to get the lower rate in (1) and (3) above. If no certificate can be shown the higher rate must be paid. A reasonable period of time might be allowed to get the certificate, providing the time allowed does not extend beyond March 3lst. If it did, a late fee of $2.00 would also have to be charged. SIX DOLLAR LICENCE ($6.00) 1. Any female dog weight 8 pounds or-less for which no certificate of spaying-can be produced. EIGHT DOLLAR LICENCE ($8..00) 1. Any dog over 8 pounds in weight which has not been spayed or neutered. After March 3lst of any year all licence fees must have a late penalty of $2.00 added, except in the case of the dog just being purchased, in which case the owner applies; also, a new dog just entering the Province. . . An important aspect of licencing that comes to mind is that people get the idea that because a late licence fee is not paid until after March 3lst that their dog does not have to be licenced until that date. This is a fallacy. The current licences expire on December 31st. Section 4 (1) (a) of the Act. Section 3(1) of the Act is quite specific in stating, "No person shall keep a dog unless a valid and subsisting licence has been issued in respect of that dog" etc. Anybody who keeps a dog that is unlicenced between January Ist and March 31st is in violation of the Act. The regulations under Section 3(4) set out the circumstances where a late licence fee of $2.00 will be paid. It does not state that a dog does not have to be licenced until March 31st.’ éTe oa
