Anyone may submit input or event information to Tobi or Lauren at the UNBC Women’s Centre, or c/o Over The Edge. There is a new service being offered through the Women’s Centre and the Men’s Anti- Sexism Group this term. A Mature Students’ Support Group is being formed for any interested mature students at UNBC. Lorraine Tupper, a full-time mature student in her first year towards a Bachelor of Social Work, believes that mature students have concerns/ experiences that are very different from younger students. Some of those experiences include feelings of isolation as lifestyles and needs are different from younger students. On Thursday, February 6 at noon, a forum will be organized by the B'Hai organization. on Friday, February 7th at noon a public lecture will be presented by Dr. Jack S. Hielema entitled, "Contemporary Spirituality" (Room 238). Different tables will promote the need for spiritual awareness. According to Tupper, “It’s like learning to refocus on learning.” (Something some of us who are here straight out of high school tend to take for granted.) Tupper commends and appreciates on-campus services already available to all students 9i.e. counselling, learning centre) which have provided her with that has improved her _ standing. however, Tupper feels that a support group would provide an extra venue for mature students to vent their fustrations of concerns, share useful survival tips, and maybe make some arrangements to go out and have fun - mature student - style! 1. We’re going to Marmot Basin in Jasper, Alberta 2. For days skiing, four nights accomodation. We’ll be leaving on hursday, February 20, at approx. 3:00 pm. 3. We’re staying at the Marmot Inn. Yes, they have a pool, hot-tub, and etc. Kitchen units on a first come, first serve basis. 6 people to a room, you pick your roommates. : . We'll be travelling by Greyhound Coach, comfy seats, video, and, yes, for those who know, the same wacky driver. 5. Rentals will be through Jasper’s Sources for Sports Shop. As long as you fill out the sheet in the NUGSS office, your stuff will be ready when we get there. Prices range from $9-$25 per day, for a complete package, depending on the gear you want. 6. As above, accommodations will include kitchen units for the early birds. Various drink, food, and entertainment specials are being finalized, and will blow your mind. 7. The deposit required to reserve your space is $100, payable at the UGSS office. The remainder is payable anytime, definitely by the 13th of February. 8. The MAXIMUM total is $200. 9. Yes, the maximum is $200. We are working to make it cheaper. 10. Well, those skis are by the NUGSS office are worth about $1000, and will be won by someone on the trip, prior to leaving, so hey can be mounted up for you. The Snowboard is worth about $600, and will be won by someone attending the ski films that we are putting on. Ask at the NUGSS office. POWDERFEST THOSE THAT WENT LAST YEAR KNOW ABOUT IT THOSE THAT DIDN’T, -HEARD ABOUT IT RESERVE EARLY! With her enthusiasm and experience, the Mature Students’ Support Group will be a great addition to support services available at UNBC.
