CO On ee ae ee "fen SDE Sa G® Robert Gray the Gold Medal for Canada, as well as the Silver Medal for British Columbia, by her essay on | AST year honour was brought to our School by Miss Minnie Wesley, from Port Simpson, who won “The Place of Confederation in the History of Canada.” ‘This year again has glory fallen upon us, through the selection of Robert Gray, another Tsimpshian, from amongst a large number of candidates, to be one of four to represent the Province of British Columbia at the huge Boy Scout Jamboree to be held in Birkenhead, England, next August, over thirty-three thousand Scouts from all parts of the world attending. Robert came to Coqualeetza in 1924, at the age of fourteen, having previously attended the day school at Port Simpson. He is the son of Louis Gray, and has the distinction of being related to the wife cf Clah, who, in the 70’s, travelled by canoe from Port Simpson to Alaska, as the first Protestant missionary to that far northern state. Later Clah was taken up by Rev. Dr. Crosby, pioneer Canadian Methodist Missionary, and ultimately by the Presbyterian Board of the United States in Brooklyn, who established a mission centre in Alaska, retaining Clah as a lay member until his death. Since coming to Coqualeetza Robert has proved himself to be an excellent all-round schoolboy. {n the academic field he has worked his way to the Second Year in High School, standing well in his class. He is one of the leaders in the School life, having held the office of Secretary of the Students’ Council and Representative of his class both lasc year and this. He has a great love for music, and a versatility here, as he plays not only the piano, but the banjo and the saxophone as well. He is a member of the Coqualeetza Orchestra and the Coqualeetza Choir. But it is as a Boy Scout that Robert has attained his greatest distinction. With marked interest he has prepared for the different tests, earning in turn the Second Class Badge, the First Class Badge, and finally the King Scout Badge. And now he has won what is not only a signal honour, but a unique and magnificent opportunity, the right to represent his native Province in the Old Country, and the privilege of attending this great conclave, of visiting historic spots in Great Britain, of meeting notable and famous personages. Before leaving for England also, he will have the valuable experience of intensive training in Ottawa. He sails from Montreal by the Canadian Scout Ship “Antonia” on July 19th. We heartily congratulate Robert upon his great good fortune,—and we confess that we bask with considerable pride in the reflected glory he has thrown upon our School. Page six OC) = OS MOS),
