The CARE Program will be implemented in Kindergarten through Grade Three and the Feeling Yes, Feeling No Program in Grades Four through Six. The meeting dates and times are as follows: Monday, 7:00 P:M. Good Hope Lake April 11th Community Centre Tuesday, 6:30 P.M. Snowridge Gym for April 12th the CARE Program 8:00 P.M. Snowridge Gym for Feeling Yes, Feeling No Program These two programs will be offered as opt-out programs. In other words, unless we have written instructions from you that you do not wish your child to take part, they will be included. We encourage you to come along on April 11th and 12th to find out more about these programs. B.C. LIONS TO VISIT Two members of the B.C. Lions football team will be coming to our school on Thursday, April 7th at 1:15 p.m. to talk to our students about the prevention of drug abuse. Parents are welcome to attend this presentation as well - and, of course, Alun Evans you can come too! But please leave your football at home. LOST- AND FOUND Our Lost and Found Box is still full of the winter’s collection of hats, mitts, scarves, running shoes, gym strip and even skates. Please find an opportunity to come in and check for your child’s belongings. CASSENTI PLAYERS CONCERT The Cassenti Players Concert held on March 9th was a great success. Our students learned a lot about musical instruments and Sharon Athwal learned very quickly how to play Happy Birthday on the bassoon. enjoyed by all! The special treat was ZUKERMAN AND THE CASENTI PLAYERS TIMELY TEDDY Timely Teddy loves the Grade Four classroom so much that he just: can’t seem to leave it. No wonder though, since there haven’t been any lates in there for more than two months. Lets see if we can’t get Teddy out of there and into another classroom soon! ACTIVITY AFTERNOONS Our Activity Afternoons have been progressing well. We have budding artists, athletes and cooks. Co-operation and fun are the order of the day. ASSEMBLY Our Grade Five Class presented their assembly on Friday, March 25th. Students, staff and parents enjoyed some very special entertainment. The team won all five of their games including a 49-32 victory in the championship final. Top scorer for the Eagles was Adrian Dostie, who averaged 15.4 points per game. All team members played extremely well and: exhibited a high degree of sportsmanship. Team members included Adrian and Robert Dostie, David Lan- phear, Binder Mangat, Janice Joseph, Stephen Ryan and coaches Ted Beck and Tony Shaw. The Cassiar Junior Girls Basketball Team par- ticipated in the ‘“‘‘Under-100” Zone Playoffs in Hazelton on the weekend of February 19-20. The team placed second in the tournament losing in double overtime to the Hazelton Spar- tans. The girls did not leave empty handed however, for the team won the “Most Sportsmanlike Team’ award, and individual all-star awards were won by f«elly Huber and Ellen Artico. INTRAMURALS The ‘‘Small-Net’’ Indoor Soccer League was won by the Gladiators, with the Couch Potatoes, and Pele’s plumbers finishing second and third respectively. RENOVATIONS The smell of fresh paint is in the air at Cassiar Secondary School. The district maintenence department (Stan and Shawn) have recently finished painting the gym stage. In addition, the Cassiar Student Society has renovated their canteen area in order to provide our students with a lounge area in which they may meet with other students in a non-classroom environment: AUCTION '88 The annual Cassiar Student Society Auction was held on Sunday, March 13. | am pleased to announce that almost $4,500 was raised through this event. The number of people who were involved in this event are too numerous to mention in this column (see additional column), but | would like to thank, in particular, Mary Molan and Roland Rudkowsky of the Cassiar Student Society for their efforts in organizing this event. GEORGE ZUKERMAN CONCERT In the second of a three part series of quest speakers and performers, on March 7, the teachers and students of Cassiar Secondary attended a performance by the Cassenti Players (George _Zukerman). The performance was an educational as well as a musical experience in that the musicians explained the history and musical capabilities of their instruments. Our thanks to Rev. Studd for the use of the Anglican Church and their piano for this per- formance. B.C. LIONS TO VISIT The third part of this three part series will take place. on April 7, when two members of the B.C. All students will be given-course selection sheets which | would advise they com- plete in consultation with their parents. As in the past, during the months of April-May, a number of students will be participating in the annual Work Experience Program in which students actually work in the community of Cassiar for a period of one week. AU REVOIR TONY Mr. Tony Shaw, infamous playing coach of the counsellor, and science and computer science teacher, has ob- tained a position with Yukon Correctional Services Department developing educational and recreational programs for young offenders, beginning April 4, 1988. | am sure that students, staff and the community: of Cassiar wish him all the best in his new position. Mr. Shaw’s replacement is Mr. Tom Blair who will assume all of Tony’s previous teaching and counselling duties.. Mr. Blair has had a number of years of teaching experience and | am sure that he will prove to be a capable replacement.
