As such, it is our mandate to report on issues of interest to students in the Northern Region. We encourage all students, both on the main and regional campuses to submit to Over the Edge. Over the Edge is part of the Canadian University Press network of papers, otherwise known as CUP. Cup is an organization that is entirely owned by member papers, and provides such services as a news wire and advertisements to Over the Edge. Over the Edge is published every second week during the fall and winter semesters Office Location: 16-350 MAILING ADDRESS 3333 University Way Prince George, BCV2N 4Z9 PHONE (250) 960-5633 FAX (250) 960-5407 EMAIL over-the-edge@unbc.ca Shelby Petersen, Editor in Chief The Editor’s Edict, Things are well underway Well, I would say that this semester is going pretty well so far! By now you should all be in the swing of things and know that it is best to have your read- ings done before class, and that you should start those papers before things get too hectic...hopefully! This is a super busy time of year for us at Over the Edge. Not only do we have to adjust to our new Winter Semester schedules, we also have to travel! That is right, it’s time for another National Conference hosted by the Canadian University Press. This year the conference is being held in Victoria, BC and hundreds of university newspaper journalists from across the country will be in attendance. For those of you who do not know, Over the Edge is a member paper with the Canadian University Press (CUP). CUP is the oldest journalism organization in North America and this year's conference will be the organiza- tion's 74th Annual! Canadian University Press is a national, non-profit co-operative, owned and operated by more than 80 student newspapers from coast to coast. The oldest student news service in the world, and North America's only student press co- operative, CUP is how student newspapers exchange stories and ideas. CUP was formed in 1938 when editors from across Canada gathered in Win- nipeg to discuss problems they faced covering national news. In many respects, CUP operates like a student version of the Canadian Press and the Canadian Association of Journalists. Our most important feature is the national news wire, kept current by a network of writers from across the country and stories written by member newspapers. Those of us who went to the conference are super excited to help make Over the Edge even better than it already is with all of the new and exciting informa- tion we have learned. If you would like to eventually attend one of these awe- some conferences then you should get involved with OTE. Who knows where it could take you! ~ “LOL- =LOOK WHAT | RENTED FOR THEM WEEKEND!!!
