It’s almost Spring, but not: quite, The.sun moves into Pisces on Feb. 18", so attempt to pull back the’reigns on your momentum and be aware of subtleties. You may want to adjust fixed plans as the mood of the Pisces Sun sends you hints to actualize, or terminate them in aide of reverting you toward a more honest path dedi- cated to you. Thankfully, Mercury has been in Pisces for a few weeks already, so com- municating these changes and dely- ing into yourself is hopefully already occurring, And all of this change and inner processing is for developing an honest, sincere expression of yourself. ~ However, the depths of the waters of our past are generally discomforting for most, so we may find ourselves pushing things, especially emotional concerns, further away. Right now is an opportune time to deal with the past (the Sun, Mercury and Uranus in Pisces), so if you find yourself going to counseling or purging past pain, then your sprouts for spring will be strong. For those who stub- bornly continue to repress, or remain in denial, will find their spring sprouts stunted and/or malformed. Thus, the possibility for ideas/plans to bear fruit will depend upon how well you clear your closet of skeletons. If you are keeping plans/ideas flexible right now, then you may find Uranus less destructive come the beginning of March when it conjuncts the Sun. As already mentioned, this disruption is to aid in actualizing yourself. Embrace the change, even if it is devastating. The greatest sorrows, when processed, bare the sweetest fruit in the end. Anything to do with -partnerships, whether intimate or work related, will ae Rae. be intense and tricky to deal with. The more you speak up for yourself the bet- ter; that is, actualizing how you feel, not being egotistical and controlling. If single, you'll find that you are going to connect deeply with someone, or have great desire to create deep connection. Again this could just be a really good friend or co-worker, or possibly even a spiritual connection with some higher power, The point and focus is to be able to relate with the world on a deeper, mote real level, less superficiality and performance - in other words, get in touch with your feelings. If the connec- tion is not really there and you are will- ing to deal with that fact, then many relationships will split. This theme is expanded through Jupiter being in Scorpio since mid summer, and is in- tensified this month because of all the Piscien energy. And come March 4", when the moon is opposite Jupiter, you will be able to see clearly what is going PHOTO BY MAGGIE GILBERT on within these spheres of your life;. which will be enlightening or bewilder- ing depending upon how you choose to deal with it. All in all, life is presenting us with some new opportunities for growth in the sector of work/career goals and ex- periences, as well as shedding relation- ships that are unhealthy, while develop- ing deeper more real connections with new ones or-ones already in motion. Remember, the more dealt with now means more prosperity. for spring, so try to enjoy the pain knowing the fu- ture will be brighter and the experience will bring you closer to yourself and what you want. CBC and Musical Mastu rbation SARAH KIM THE WINDOW (NEW COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO) TORONTO (CUP) — If you can't remember the last time you listened to the radio, the next time you do, turn your dial to 99,1 FM at 11:30 a.m. Anyone who is even the least bit of a music snob will enjoy CBC Radio One's The National Playlist, hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, formerly of the now defunct CBC TV program, >play. The show combines wit and critical com- mentary to the music we may or may not love. The concept of the daily 30-minute show is:simple. Ghomeshi invites Can- adians who are affiliated with the music industry, such as songwriters, produ- cers, columnists and the like, and asks them for 50 seconds, to pitch a song that they believe should be on the play- list. Then, in a pretentiously cultural fashion, debate if the song is worthy enough for their tastes. This is no Top 40 Pop countdown. The songs that have been pitched range from Neil Young's Heart of Gold to Your Ex-lover is Dead by Stars. With this in mind, this show isn't for every music snob. If youhear someone talk- ing about how awesome Belle and Se- bastian are, and you shudder in disgust, Stay away. I enjoy the show quite a bit. How- ever, the musical masturbation becomes somewhat cumbersome—you need to enjoy it with moderation. Sometimes you just like-a certain song and there's no need to give an intellectual reason as to why it's influencing the music indus- try or your life. You just like the song because you like the way it sounds. Many of us are out there: those who scoff at the indie ‘music scene, but se- ‘cretly devour anything that diverges from the mainstream. Still, give The National Play List a listen. You'll learn a lot about music you havent heard yet, and also hear songs you haven't heard in a long time. However you look at it, at the end of the day, you ve done your duty for this country by listening to and supporting Canadian media.
