and today many old-time Clintonians will
recall points of interest around their town
where leading pioneers were entertained
while they “laid over” en route to the fields
which later brought them riches.

An area such as “C” Division naturally
presents many difficulties in policing at
various times of the year when the forces
of nature are at their worst. Indicative of
this is the policing of the Red Pass Detach-
ment in the Kamloops District. Red Pass
consists principally of homesteaders, trap-
pers, pole makers and railroad men scat-

tered over a comparatively large area. Al -

though the population is small it must, of
course, receive the conventional police pro-
tection. To effect these patrols, officers
travel railway freights, a variety of veloci-
pedes, canoes and foot during the summer,
and in the winter revert almost solely to
snowshoeing.

In such a district the advent of short wave
radio communication in the Provincial Police
system serves a long-felt need. Stations are
located at Divisional Headquarters at Kam-
loops, Williams Lake, Bralorne and Revel-
stoke.

The whole of the Division affords a great
fascination to hunter and angler alike, and
in this respect is a profitable tourist area
for the Province. Trout of Kamloops, birds
of Vernon and Kelowna, big game of Gold-
en, and caribou and moose of the Cariboo
have brought many a visitor, and few are
there among these who do not leave with
the desire to come back to this, the back-
ground of romance in Canada’s western
province, “C” Division of the B. C. Police.
