e Over The Edge Page 10 ~NUGSS Hello everyone, | hope alt your papers are coming along well?! This is a quick note just to let all of the undergrad students at UNBC know that the NUGSS AGM is coming up in January. This means that a few changes will probably be made to the constitution, including the section regarding Finances. I'm writing this to let you all know that | have been furi- ously working on a policy for NUGSS. This Policy, which has come to be known as “The” Policy is currently in the works and almost com- plete. 1 would also like to tell you all, and hopefully spark some interest in someone, that + am starting up a Finance Committee. This Finance Committee will consist of four (4) members _ including myself as the Chair, and three (3) others including a Finance major, and someone outside of the Business sphere. One of whom will be one of the NUGSS Directors at large. It is my hope that this committee will streamline the financial operations of the Society and make the students more involved in the spending of their money. The purpose of a Finance Committee is very simple. It will be the body that writes up policy and sets the budget each year (upon approval of the board). This is a very important committee, and one which | feel is vitat to the operations of NUGSS. It is necessary to have a Finance Committee because of the new finance policy and the new budgetary process being introducing in the next few months. | know this is.a very short, and simplified, write up about such an important process in NUGSS but | would urge you to come in and talk to me if you have any questions or- comments. As well, | would hope that someone out there would be interested in being part of the new Finance Committee. If you are inter- ested or just wish to pick my brain, then please come in and talk to me. Thank you, Chris Reid NUGSS Tef-@@s urer. ReidcQ00@unbc.ca Frozen Club Money Recently, it has come ta my: attention that club presi- dents, and students in gener- al, have expressed concern about the recent funding freeze towards all student. clubs. Let me reassure those of you that are club execu- tives, and those of you who are members, that this fund- ing freeze will do nothing. to damage, or effect the clubs in their day-to-day opera- tions. The concerns brought to my attention have been. ones of disbelief and anger. | would like to stress the importance of this policy and the implications that could happen if the old practices of both NUGSS and the clubs ‘were to continue. campus, and that includes the finances. | know it may seem a little overwhelming to have a “watch dog” looking over your finances, but it is a measure that must be taken fo assure that your money, as students, is being spent in an appropriate manner. As treasurer, have the responsi- bility to assure the students of UNBC that their money is being spent wisely and that the misuse of funds does not occur. With that being said, | would urge each of you, who have concems, to come in and talk to me about this. | am happy to sit down and talk to you about the reasons behind the freeze, and what is expected of the clubs to freeze is not a permanent one, but one which will allow the operations of organiza- tions on campus to run effec- tively. So please, if you have concerns about funding or the finances: of your clubs, come in and talk to me. | would hope that this policy is not discouraging clubs from starting up or continuing operations, but gives them ~ an incentive to continue func- tioning with a sense that their finances are under control and in adequate condition. So please, if you have ques- tions, do not hesitate to come into the office and talk to me. It is the duty of NUGSS to _ have their funding reinstated.
