Deciding upon Electrical Fngineering as a career, he took a course at a Chicago institute and then attended day classes for one vear at Montreal Tech. School. During the suceeding years Alex graduated to the vsition of Electrical Superintendent with various firms and at one time had his own electrical contract- ing business. During the Second World War he served {if the 8.U.A.F. Alex joined Uassiar Ashes tos on April 23, 1954 as Electrical Superinténdent and the majority of Cassiar's present electrical svstem was laid out under his supervision. During the later years at Cassiar, Alex filled the position of Electrical Advisor, in which he contributed much of his knowledge and wide experience to others, he also assisted in the Training department as Electrical Instructor. On beh4lf:of their friends and associates, Hans Veltmeyer wished Alex and Nina a long and happy retirement and :then called on Yr. Caron who presented Alex and Nina with a silver tray as a token of the Company's appreciation. Mr. Caron presenting the silver tray Mr. F. Kliment then made a presentation to Alex on behalf of the Electrical Department in appreciation of Alex's help and assistance to the electrical shop in general and himself in particular. Mr. Mrs. Ray Harris hosted a party on Saturday, May 8th at their home in honour of the Cape Construc- tion families now residing in Cassiar. This was a great opportunity for several Casstiar- ites and the Cape Families to get acquainted and exchange ‘experiences’. Joyce served a lovely lunch and all present enjoyed an entertaining social evening At this time we would like to WELCOME all the Cape Construction families and employees and certainly hope they enjoy their stay in Cassiar and have many pleasant memories when they leave. SPRING FROLIC ~ LIONS CLUB On Friday, May Ist, the Lions of Casstar once aga. came through with 'Flving Colours of Purple and Cold" to host a Spring Frolic. The Bel Airs of Watson Lake supplied music for a long, enjoyable evening of dancing and general ‘merry making’. The Ladies attending the Ball had special treatment, each heing presented with a corsage to wear during the evening. A scrumptious buffet supper was provided by the popular cafeteria staff and was, as usual, well prepared and tremendously enjoved by all. All in all, a wonderful, well organized Frolic, Lions, thank vou for a verv enjoyable evening. Goodbve to Jean Jean Peinholt, who had been in Cassiar for six months, worked in the Accounting Office. Although she was only a short term resident in Cassiar, she had accumulated manv friends and kept herself, her little green Vauxhall and her friends "hopping"!!! Some of the guests at Jean's party Jean, upon departure, took one of the character- istics from the month of March - she "came in like a lamh and went out like a lion". On Friday, April 24th, the girls at the Staffhouse put on a very well atten- ded, lively farewell party for her and presented her with a fishing rod and all the other apparatus needed to hook her first big one ---(fish that is??) Jean and her fishing gear.
