McPHEE, Jnstructor Work was commenced in this Department with the reconstruction and completing of the hull of a thirty-eight foot cruiser, new ribbing throughout, replanking and decking being’ applied. This boat designed as a Mission Launch would be suitable also as a patrol boat or private launch. The cabin space and deck house could be arranged as desired. The second project was in the form of a twenty-eight foot fishing boat, with eight-foot beam and a four-foot depth of hold, substantially built with oak ribs, cedar planking and gumwood gunwales and complete with a ten-foot cabin, fish box and net well. A twenty-foot open boat, five-foot beam, was built, suitable for an outboard motor, oak ribs and cedar planking being also used in this project. The Boat Building Department is a credit to the boys and to the very efficient instruction given them by Mr. McPhee. No other school activity is so closely linked with the life of the village and the future vocation of the boys. They may well be proud of the result of the year's work as the boats are well designed, carefully built and thoroughly seaworthy. The ranking of the boys in this Department is as follows: Robert Hughes, Josiah Tait, Moses Leeson, Johnny Thomas. Printing Department G. WILLIAMS A new and very interesting branch of technical training is the Printing Department. An Excelsior Hand Press, 11x10 Inside Chase and an Automatic Electric Multicolor Press, 8x10 Inside Chase, complete with all accessories were secured in Vancouver and with this beginning the Department was soon in operation. A quantity of type is being obtained from Kitamaat where for a number of years Principal Raley published a Missionary Quarterly Magazine named “Nanakwa” or “Dawn on the North West Coast.” Since discontinuing this publication the type has not been used and will be put to good use in this Department.
