Over the Edge September 8-22 Arts & Entertainment Page 10 The Best of the Best Over the Edge has compiled a list of the best places in Prince George for all those new to UNBC and the city || By Darcie Smith and Shelby Petersen Best Venue: Third is the newest and only venue in Prince George that is dedicated exclusively ta jive music performances. As its name suggests, it is located downtown at 1157 3 ~ Avenue. Third is consistently booked almost every day of the week with acts ranging from heavy metal to folk. This venue is definitely my favourite in town, and it hasn’t even been open for a year. Some upcoming shows to look forward to include: B.A. Johnston with the Magnificent 7s, logal favourite The Concerns of Royalty, and the Cera EP Release on October 9°. To contact Third about bookings email thirdpg@gmail.com or for information on upcoming acts visit the Third Facebook page. Best Restaurant: Picking the number one local restaurant was extremely challenging. Everyone | spoke to had more than one favourite to suggest, and they were all exceptional choices. Being an avid pasta consumer, my final decision came to Cimo’s Mediterranean Grill. If you’re looking for the freshest, tastiest pasta in town and a good glass of wine, definitely stop at Cimo’s. Not only is the food incredible, but no other restaurant in town can provide the same great environment and atmosphere that you can find at Cimo’s. I’ve never left disappointed and I’ve always had a great visit, even if it was for an awkward family dinner time. Best Book Store: Books & Co. Need | say more? The warmest-feeling bookstore in town with a great selection of local authors as well ag the classic favourites. Another great place to visit in downtown, located on 3 ~ Avenue across from the Native Friendship Centre. One of the greatest aspects to Books & Co. is that they can order any and every book that you can think of. My issue with other book stores in town is their inability to order certain books which aren’t normally on the shelves, but I’ve never come across this issue at Books & Co., which is most likely a mistake on my part for not going to see them first. If you love book stores, drop in the next time you're downtown and, if you're like me, you can waste an entire afternoon browsing the titles. Best Cafe: Located right inside Books & Co. is the lovely and humble Cafe Voltaire. The atmosphere is excellent, and it doesn’t hurt that you’re not only surrounded by wonderful individuals, but the books as well. I’m a big fan of cafes being in bookstores, and out of any I’ve been to in both B.C. and Alberta, Cafe Voltaire remains at the top of my list. You can always run into someone you know there, or easily chat with someone new. Their cooks make killer soup and scones, and menu items change daily to keep things fresh. If you’re stopping in at Books & Co. looking for a new read, it’s guaranteed that it will pair exceptionally well with a hot cup of coffee or tea from this delightful, eccentric cafe. Every Friday night at Cafe Voltaire also boasts of a free open mic performance. Best Clothing Store: Admittedly, Prince George is not a shopping Mecca. Frankly, there are very few places here which offer items of both quality and style. However, there are a few gems hidden throughout the city which can offer the shopping experience you are looking for. Addicted to Retro and Funky Stuff is one such a place. Located on 4" avenue across from the Ramada Hotel, Addicted to Retro and Funky stuff is a quirky little hovel where you will be able to find the city’s best vintage pieces. While the store is about the size of a walk in closet, it is jam packed with one of a kind finds sure to put any shopper on the sartorial hit list. What's more, the shop is owned and managed by one of the city’s most colourful characters who is sure to talk your ear off. So, if you don’t leave the store with that vintage coach bag you’ve been searching for, you will have at least gained an experience. Clockwise: Third, Books and Company, Addicted to Retro and Fuky Stuff, and Cafe Vol- taire. Not pictured: Cimo Mediter- ranean Grill Photos by Grace Waddell Photo Editor
