V2N 4Z9 Photo by Jeremy Karlson By Paul Berard For those attending the Bill and Doug’s Big Gig Six, the word of the evening; was inti- mate. The opening band, Soft, was quite good. Their punchy songs and lyrics got people up on the dance floor, but - after a while some of their tunes sounded the same. They played a hour set, which was largely enjoyable and something not often seen from a lot of opening acts. But come forth the Prophets, and watch the place go passively up in flames. From the opening, the floor was packed with people mov- ing, swaying and climbing the walls in ecstasy as these guys played their set. Tunes were included from both albums, with the favorites resulting in the place going absolutely nuts. Everybody was moving and having a good time, most of all the Prophets themselves. Despite the fact that the size of the stage was limited, they blew the place out with tight rhythms and pure sound pre- formance. The catchy bass riff in Paranoia was right on, (From Right): The Barstool Prophets blow out the Munk, with Bassist Glenn Forester, Vocalist Graham Greer, Guitarist Al Morier and Drummer Bobby Jones (not visible) pound out their latest album. seeking Truth: Barstool Prophets with an additional live section towards the end. The tightly wound energy of Thrusters pounded through the minds of everyone present. As the heat temperature in the Munk rose, so did the action on the floor and stage. The end result was a sound that replicated their CDs, but still did not ignore the viabiili- ty of the live performance. After the show, these guys remained very visible, work- ing the floor, meeting people and continuing to have a good time. If you are in or around where these guys a going to perform, make the pilgramage. But | doubt you could get much closer to them than here in Prince George. Opening band, Soft, straight out of Edmonton, works up the crowd before the Prophets lay down their stuff.
