SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE. WE HOPE TO HAVE SOMEONE IN THE OFFICE TO COVER DURING THIS TIME. THANK -YOU! COLLEGE TO PARTICIPATE IN CASSIAR SECONDARY CAREER DAY Secondary school students in Cassiar will be visited later this month as part of a post- secondary information tour. Martin Cocking, community relations director from Northern Lights College returns to Cassiar Secondary for a keynote address during Career Day on Friday, February 22nd. As Cocking points out, this visit is especially important. "During my visit last November, | spoke about post-secondary opportunities in general. The time for early admission applications is fast approaching, so | will focus this time in greater detail on applications, procedures, and what students can expect once their applications are submitted." The three major BC universities have an early admission deadline of February 28th. Students who miss this deadline can still apply for the regular deadline in June. "I'll also be able to discuss awards and financial aid," he said. "It's really important to learn about assistance that is available for furthering education -- through scholarships. or bursaries, for example." While in Cassiar, Cocking will also provide training to college staff on their new Macintosh computer equipment. Programmer Sandra Sandvik thinks the new system will help with College administration and course programming. "With the Mac equipment, we'll be able to produce advertising, brochures and other publications in-house. As a result, we should be able to promote our programs more effectively and efficiently," she said. The Cassiar Learning Centre hopes to offer Cocking's expertise to the community. "We hope Martin will be able to offer a workshop or two on desktop publishing -- but we don't have his final itinerary yet," said Sandvik. Cocking is scheduled to be in Cassiar from February 20th to 22nd. Please contact the Cassiar Learning Centre for further information.
