POAT: ORB ISS SE SEE Recreation Hockey by Bernd Guderjahn The Cassiar Senior Hockey League has completed another season. The play-offs were held following the regular Season. The C.C.C. Flyers and the Triple “S” Oldtimers, second and third respectively in the regular season play, tangled in the semi-final. The C.C.C. Flyers came out on top, winning the best 2 of 3 series 2 games straight. Both teams played exceptionally well during the series which included an overtime game. The final series was then played between the C.C.C. Flyers and the regular season champion P &.W Panthers. It was also a well played series. The C.C.C. Flyers came out victorious, winning two games straight to take the league overall championship. The teams then retired to the lounge, complete with trophy, for a bit of liquid refreshment and celebration! - The regular season saw many fine individual skills shown by numerous players. The following players received recognition for theirefforts by being awarded the following trophies: Most Sportsmanlike Player-Lee Callow; Best Defenseman-Roger Borsato; Best Forward- Bruce Leckie; Best Goaltender-Richard Knowles; High Scorer-Guy Gregoire; Most Valuable Player-Guy Gregoire. The 4th Annual East-West hockey game was held on March 24th. The arena was full of spectators cheering for their team. The teams were introduced, player by player, by Gary Periard and Sherry Sethen. The build-up for the game was pretty intense as eastern and western Canada’s reputation was on the line. The national anthem was sung by Mrs. Sheilagh Best and the game was underway. The senior league has been playing non-contact for three years and since this game was full-contact many players were heads down for the first part of the game. There were some heavy body checks given out by both teams. Chuck Molloy:was hit into the glass by John Zebroff and an imprint of Chuck’s face was partially visible on the glass. The west dominated the play of the game and came out victorious by the score of 13—2. The Most Valuable Player for the west. was Greg Morgan who scored three goals and the Most Valuable Player for the east was Wayne Conley for his fine play. "Many thanks to Ken Smith and Gary Periard for organ- izing this annual event. After the game the players congre- gated in the west dressing room for what some rumours have as 15-20 cases of beer, so much for the athletic imagel The Senior Hockey executive would like to thank everyone who helped during the season and the few die- hard fans who supported us. Hope to see more enthusiasm for next season.
