The majority of the distribution around
the plant and townsite is 2300 volts,
which is stepped down to 550 volts and
220/110 volts for supplies to motors,
heating. lighting, etc.

A "ring-feed" supplying the townsite en-
sures that any major breakdowns in the
overhead lines will only affect small
areas of the townsite. An emergency pow-
er supply to the pumphouse ensures that
water supplies to the townsite can be re-
stored within a short period of time in
the event of a total power outage.

The Electrical Department is divided into three sec-
tions - Mill, Mine and Town and Plantsite. Each sec-
tion is héaded by an electrical foreman who reports

to the Assistant Plant Maintenance Superintendent -

MINE

Mr. Jay Lee is responsible for the Miné Elec-
trical section, which involves all pit equip-
ment, Primary Crushing Plant, Tramline and
the power distribution from the Powerhouse to
the Mine. Jay is presently assisted by seven

Electricity is supplied to the Mine via a step
‘up transformer outside the Powerhouse, stepping
voltage up to 24,000 volts. This high voltage ,
is required to minimize losses along the al-
most 4.5 miles of overhead power line. Main
distribution within the pit is at 4,160 volts.

This department is under the direction
of Mr. Harry Stafford, who is assisted
by eight electricians working three
shifts and one instrument technician.
This section is responsible for the main-

tenance of the Mill, Concentrator and the
Dryers.

The Mill is supplied at 2300 volts via
three seperate feeders from the Power-
plant, this is stepped down to 600 volts
with a transformer capacity of 9.2MVA
