Many Wes / We wish to thank our readers for the generous response to the appeal for The Outpost Stamp Club. One of the first batch of stamps to be received by the club was from New Westminster and the sender received the following: Dear Mr. Maguire: Thank you very much indeed for the generous lot of stamps you so kindly sent the O. P. S. Club. We will always be grateful for any American or British Empire stamps you may care to send us. If you want to send them on an exchange basis (stamp for stamp), send one of each different kind you have for swapping, mounted on a thick piece of paper and give us some idea of what countries you are particularly interested in. Your stamps will be valued at catalogue prices and stamps to the equivalent value will, in due course, be for- warded to you. Otherwise just send batches of stamps and we will send you batches of whatever we have amongst our spares in return. Thank you again, very much, for the higher values which are greatly appreciated. The OUTPOST STAMP CLUB, an inno- vation for the benefit of members of the Force serving on remote out-stations, shows every sign of proving a great success, but entails a great deal more work than I ever anticipated. Kind regards and many grateful thanks. Yours sincerely, M. ROLFE, Editor, The Outpost. Send your stamps to The Outpost, P.O. Box 803, Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. R. P. Warren, Chief Constable of the County, advised the younger generation never to trust a German. “He will let you down. I am just wondering whether we have learnt our lesson, or whether we shall think in 1950 as we have thought in 1944, that the only sure safeguard against another war is to be always ready, and it is up to the people of this country to see that it is ready.” ALWAYS BEWARE OF THE GERMAN We might also add that it is up to the people of this country to face up to the fact that the German is at heart a rufhanly gangster, who, given the slightest chance, would prepare for a third desperate attempt at world domination. The British public is notoriously soft-hearted and so is apt to ‘ discredit the authentic stories of German atrocities notwithstanding the overwhelming evidence that is being irrefutably unearthed of their horrible crimes. Only by the Grace of God has this country been spared the visitations of the $.S. and the Gestapo and their terrible death and torture camps. Until the German in the fullness of time has been taught to realise that crime does not pay, the most vigilant eye must be kept upon him, and, if the future peace of the world is to be assured, we must never lose sight of this fact. Therefore, we are glad to see that at least one Chief Constable has thought it fit to publicise the true nature of the German. —The Constabulary Gazette. It was an old custom for churchwardens to leave church whilst the service was in progress to visit public houses in search of delinquents and, sad to say, they did not always return. It is alg said that the singers would sometimes ste across to a neigbouring tavern, where they would “wet their throats” in order to do justice to the sacred anthem they were about to sing.
