The latter presentation was for the students, who enjoyed the amazing variations of the human voice which Party Fever features. The group then nego- tiated “the road to Telegraph Creek that same day and presented yet another concert to the stu- dents and the staff of Tahltan School. The next concert in the series will be in mid-May. AIDS PRESENTATION: Welfare Canada in the person of Dr. Jay Wortman, paid: a visit to our school on April 10, in order to present information on AIDS. Students from Grade 5 through 10 were in attendance, together with staff members and people from the community. Dr. Wortman spoke in a very clear and blunt way about the origins and prevention of the AIDS virus. His talk was supple- mented by a very effective NFBD cartoon. The second half of the afternoon featured a presentation by a very talented Native troupe from the Prince Rupert area. Headed by Evan Adams, the group of three presented a moving one- act play which dramatized the plight of the AIDS victim and his or her family. While the play was in progress, there wasn't a sound in the gym, as all of us were en- grossed in the presentation being offered. Health and GORD LOVERIN: Gord, a former resident of both Dease Lake, is now working for NADA in Whitehorse and will be in the Dease Lake - Telegraph Creek area in late June to put together Cassiar and. We had an average of fifteen stu- dents out each Saturday afternoon for ten weeks. The kids have really thrown themselves into cross country skiing this year and have done very well indeed! Many thanks to Marnee Allison and Ulla Stoeckmann for Organizing and instructing, and to Karen McRae, Louise Creyke, Bev Munro, Fionualla Devine, and Ellen Wasmuth for their help get- ‘ting the skiers ready and prepar- ing that good hot chocolate each week! SCIENCE FAIR: The Yukon Science Fair was held in Whitehorse on April 6-8. Dease Lake students who participated were: Clayton Sharko, Kathryn McRae, Sonya Wagner, Leslie McRae, Arthur Asp, Hanken Asp, Fionualla Devine, Sierre Allison, and Tyler Munro. All the students did well and the team of Sonya and Leslie won sec- ond place in their division! The school is very thankful to Mike Devine, Marnee Allison, Wil Desjardins, and Michelle Jensen, for their work in organ- izing the local fair and then driving to and from Whitehorse and supervising the students there. In addition, Michelle worked as a National judge in Whitehorse! FIELD TRIPS: Well, all our stu- dents and teachers are now back from their Spring Break trips. The students who went to Europe included five from this year's school (Cynthia Asp, Crystal Nole, Donald McPhee, Jolene Louie, and Peggy Nole) and five from last year's’ school (Lucas Wright, Randy Rowe, Shaw- nee Young, Cassandra Puckett, and Nicole Constantineau). The trip included time in both London and Paris, as well as a day at the West Edmonton Mall on the way back. A few Highlights: The Jack the Ripper Walk in East London, the trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower, a visit to the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, watching the strange people at Picadilly Circus...a few lower points: the Metro in Paris, some Italian stu- dents ask the girls!), and all the walking we did...anyway, it was a great trip and the students did very well indeed. I am very grateful for the Super job of organization which Michelle Jensen and Wil Desjar- dins did, as well as their hard work all through the expedition, and to Shannon Woode, who paid her own way and yet helped us im- _ EY pe mensely all through the Next year - GREECE! The students from our school who joined the larger PacRim trip to Thailand were Terri Lynn Nole and Elizabeth Bennett. The girls travelled to Vancouver and then Hong Kong, Bangkok and Pattaya. They both found the trip inter- esting and exciting! CASSIAR aire & PIEC ES Why was Pat Harper chasing the garbage truck? Lose some- thing Pat? ; Some people never go insane.
