It is expected that the @ program will expand to the grade eight, nine and ten = level. As well, parents will receive individual information = on the program prior to its implementation. ROUND SCHOOL Student Goes To Conference Cassiar Elementary-Secondary Schoo! been fortunate en- ough to be able to send one student on an all expenses paid .trip to a National Conference for High School Students. The focus of this conference is ‘‘Canadian Pers- pectives on Energy”. Grade eleven student, Ken Cook, has been chosen as Cassiar’s representative. Ken is the Presi- dent of the Student Council. The conference, held in Yel- lowknife, will run from April 25 to May 4, 1980. _ At the world Council of Churches’ meeting in Lund in 1952, the participants accepted what has come to be known as the Lund principle: that, remembering the his- torical, cultural and doctrinal factors that still make us separated churches, we will make every effort not to do alone what we can do together. In the years since the Se- cond Vatican Council this ecumenical enterprise has in- creasingly involved. the Roman Catholic Church. So this year our two churches are, as much as possible; sharing ~ Lent together. We are doing this in two ways. First, on Wednesdays Council of Churches. Before each study session the Holy Eucharist is celebrated, according to the Roman Cath- olic rite one week, and the Anglican rite the next. In the ‘sacrament of unity’ we are aware of the sinful human div- isions that keep us apart, for we may not yet receive com- munion at each other’s altar. We hope, through this worship and study shared together, to learn more about each other and our religious back- grounds, By this, we pray that we may be better disciples of the Lord who, on the night before he died, prayed _ ‘may they all be one’ (John 17,20). The Wednesday evening program is a ‘core-ing’ activity. It helps us to get in touch with the core of our faith in Christ. Like any such program, its purpose is to enable us to be better at ‘caring’, as Christ cared, for this world of ours and its broken victims. Our second way of sharing Lent is in sharing the churches’ Cassiar Courier March 1980 Page 9 World Relief and Development is a joint project of the Presbyterian, Lutheran, United, Roman Catholic and An- glican Churches. ‘Through our giving’, as an open letter from the leaders of the five churches says, ‘we take a stand with peoples who are displaced from their homes, by political or natural disasters, in refugee or emergency ‘situations. Through the long term development programs of our churches we take a stand with those people who. are bringing about change in their local situations — the people who are bettering agriculture, who are digging wells for clean drinking water, and so on. By this two-edged Lenten program of coring and caring, we hope to be better ambassadors for Jesus Christ. He li- ved served, died and was raised from the dead that we might have life, ‘and have it abundantly’ (John 10.10). This Easter, may you know the new life in Christ bring- ing you to life. = B VaR iet a) ht ~ during Lent we have a joint study group using the guide- | commitment to World Relief and Development.
