On June 20th, over 100 well wishers gathered in the Cassiar School gymn to greet the Class of ’80 as they entered with their dates to the strains of “We Must Believe in Magic”. The theme for the evening was “Growth” and the entrance led the graduates through a “forest” and under a canopy of stars, creating a magical setting admired by all. As is usual, the transition from Undergraduate to Graduate seemed to have wrought miracles. Gone were the blue jeans of yesterday and in their place were elegant gowns and tailored suits, making the Graduates almost unrecognizable. _Guest speakers were former Cassiar teachers, Mr. Garry Smit and Mr. John Wright who brought a personnel touch to the ceremony as they regaled the audience with amusing anecdotes from the Graduate’s past. All humour aside, the guest speakers did have a message to impart to the Grads and Mr. Wright also asked that we not forget the other young _ people of Cassiar graduating this year. The Graduates received their Diplomas from Mr. Gary Roth, District Superindendant of Schools. After the presentation of Diplomas, the Graduates and their guests adjourned to the Rec. Centre for the banquet. Again the decor was cosy and charming. The final event of the evening was a Ball held in the school.
