Waite —7th Joey Waite — 11th John Sethen — 19th With a little more effort and practice, we could place in the top 3 next year in Terrace. Overall, out of 84 skiers, we did very well, BADMINTON by Anil Kaul Cassiar was represented by 2 players, Olavo Santos and Anil Kaul. We entered ii in the men’s catagory, in singles and then paired together to form a doubles team, Our matches started Friday afternoon, with our singles matches. My first opponent was Carl Etzerza: This was a short match which ended with the scores of 15-5, 15-3 in my favour. Olavo’s first opponent was Tom Robert, this match was also short with the scores of 15-8, 15-2 in Olavo’s favour. Before we played any more singles, we had to play a doubles match against Craig & Etzerza, Our opponents took an early lead of 8-0 before we re- gained our composure. The end result was a win in our favour with the scores of 15-9, 15-6. /n the quarter final round of the singles event, my opponent was Chin, and Olavo’s opponent was Lome Noftall. We both won our first game, then lost our second game, but we came back to win our third game. | won by the scores of 15-7, 14-17, 18-13 and Olavo won by the scores of 15-8, 11-15, 15-11. MIXED ADULT VOLLEYBALL There were eight teams entered in this event, each of these teams played a total of six games, with the best four playing off for the medal standings. Unfortunately, the bus left before the final matches and we don’t know the outcome as yet. Members of the team are Tracey Roberts, Marilyn Whitney, Megan Lloyd Jones, John Wong, Glenn Whittington, Yvon Perusse, Bruce Smith and Gerry Angel. The Cassiar Rovedies (as_ we were dubbed) played their first two games against Prince George, losing the first closely and wiming the second. The next two games, which followed immediately, were against Quesnel, and both vere lost in close matches. After the team enjoyed some of the local entertainment on Friday evening, a practice was held at the Bus Depot. Our final two games were played on Saturday at 11:00 p.m. against Smithers, Unfortunately, the scores were not as close and the Rovuies no longer had a chance for a medal, A good time was had during the Games, as well as the local entertainment taken in by the team. We returned to Cassiar Mon- day evening a tired but more experienced team, We are planning a tournament against teams from Whitehorse and Faro in the first part of March and would like to invite everyone to come along and watch. Although the mixed Adult Volleyball team failed to re- ceive any medals this year, they did put ona very good show and are contident of a better performance in years to come. WRESTLING One of the more gruelling events at the Games wes the Wwestling competition. This was a two day event that attracted over one hundred and fifty athletes of all ages and sizes, and from all parts of the north. Cassiar was represented by Keith Kenney. Keith, although in’ good physical condition, had not wrestled in four years, and had no way of predicting how vell he could do. The first day of competition saw Keith win his first match handily. In his second match, a tactical error cost-Keith and he lost by a close score. The wrestler Keith lost to went on to be Just edged out of the Gold, settling for the Silver. Obviously, Keith’s loss was to a fine opponent. Keith won his next fight and prepared himself for a possible shot at the Bronze medal. Day two saw Keith easily win his third match of the tournament. He went into his final match against a tough, strong opponent. This match was for the Bronze medal and Keith had become the crowd favorite, as well. Ina great fight Keith Kenny defeated his opponent with a combin- ation of skill and heart, and brought back a Bronze medal for Cassiar. The community of Cassiar should be proud to have a fine athlete and person like Keith Kenny representing them.
