COMMUNITY CLUB NEWS

Before we go into the month of May, we will review a
a very successful event at the end of March — the Yukon
Regional Games. For the first time, part of the Games
were held here in town. The two sports allotted to Cassiar
were co-ed volleyball and senior hockey. There were 8
‘teams involved in the volleyball and five in the senior
hockey tournament. Both tournaments went smooothly
over the weekend, with Cassiar teams winning both events
Enthusiastic crowds attended the Games and there was a
dance for this occasion on the Saturday night. A note of
thanks to all the volunteers and people who had offered
their homes to the athletes. Also, thank-yous to Cassiar
Resources, Erickson Gold Mine, Finning Tractor, Taurus
Resources and the Unions for their donations and support.
A special thank you to the following:

Bob Bowen for co-ordinating the Senior Hockey tour-

Dave Tripp, Sue Chambers and Liz Strebel for a

The local RCMP is holding a Regimental Ball on May
7. The Rec Centre will be closed, starting May 6 for set-
ting up. Also, the Rec Centre will only be open from 1:00
p.m. — 8:00 p.m. on Victoria Day, May 23. The Swim-
ming Pool will be opened on a Sunday timetable on that
day — the other facilities will be closed for the public
holiday.

The Swimming Pool should be opened by the time you
are reading this. The Community Club would like to wel-
come back Eric Glyn Jones and Lori Malcolm for this sum.
mer. Both Eric and Lori had worked at the Cassiar Pool
before, with excellent credentials, and will require no in-
troduction to the public. We are offering Red Cross and
RLSS classes again this summer. If enough interest is
shown we will be offering adult swim lessons, keep fit
classes and other programs. Why not drop by the Pool and
have a chat with Eric and Lori. The fees for the Swim
Pool have been set as follows:

Monthly membership — Family $25.00
Single $15.00
Day Pass — Adult — $2.00
Student — $1.50
Pre-schoolers — $1.00
The above rates are valid only if you are a Cassiar Com-
munity Club member.

_ ACTIVITIES

Francis & Anne Gleason

The 1982-83 season ended Sunday, April 10, with
the All Stars from the West defeating the Easter All Stars
9 — 4 in a well played hockey game.

The regular season ended with the Blue Team, re-
presenting Finning Tractor, winning the league title and
then being defeated by the Red team, representing
Erickson Gold, in the playoffs — 2 games to 1.

Cassiar teams won four of the six tournaments they
played in this season and congratulations go to all the
players involved.

The Cassiar Recreation/Senior Hockey league would
like to take this opportunity to thank Erickson Gold,
Finning Tractor and the Community Club for their sup-
port of our league this season. The executive of the lea-
gue would like to express their appreciation to all those
players, and other non-players, who gave of their time
and effort to assist in the officiating and organizing of
the league and tournaments throughout the year.

As president of the league, | would especially like
to thank Guy Morgan, vice-president, Gordon Giles, Sec-
retary-treasurer and Garry Periard for the support and
efforts they have given to make this the successful sea-
son that it was.

Minor Hockey

The spaghetti dinner which was held on Sunday, April 10,
was a great success and we would like to thank all the peo-
ple who came out to enjoy it for their support. To all the
Parents who donated food, THANK YOU. There is one
item we would like to make clear at this time. If you are
asked for a donation, do not feel obligated to do so, but if
you say you will we do count on that contribution. This is
one reason why there is sometimes a shortage.

On Monday, April 18, at a general meeting of the Minor
Hockey Association, the 1983—84 executive was elected:

2nd Vice-president — Frank Hawker
Secretary — Carol Giles

Treasurer — Helen Pearson

On Wednesday, May 18, we will be holding our own spec-
ial banquet for our very special hockey boys. They’ve
done a fine job and this is our way of saying thank you to
them. .

Fishing in Yukon

Whitehorse, April 6 — Angling licences are now
being distributed to sporting good stores and
other outlets and are available in Yukon commun-
ities.

This year there are several changes in the fishing

regulations, which are established by the Depart-

ment of Fisheries-and Oceans under the Federal
Fisheries Act, and enforced by Federal Fisheries
Officers and Yukon Conservation Officers.

Among the changes are the following restrictions:

From June 1 to November 30, fishing is prohibit-
ed in the Klukshu River, upstream of the bound-
ary sign which is located about one kilometre
downstream of the culvert on the Haines Road.

From July 7 to November 30, fishing is prohib-
ited down stream of the sign to the marker at
the mouth of the Klukshu River.

From July 1 to October 15, angling is prohibited
in Village Creek.

Copies of this year’s synopsis of fishing regulat-
ions should be available to the public by April 12.

conservation officer or federal fisheries officer.
