The men’s Rugby team hosted Vanderhoof, who played with some of Prince Georges’ premier players as their squad was short numbers. It was an extremely hard fought game seeing excellent play from the UNBC mén. The team lost 18-17 in an incred- ibly close match. Tries were scored for UNBC by Steve English, Vij Matthew, and Ben Trevena with Andrew Holland kicking one con- version. — Special mention should go to Greg Hamann whose exceptional forward play earned him the hon- our of Man of the Match. As this was the first home game for the UNBC men’s Rugby team in some time, it has hopefully set a precedent for future rugby at UNBC. Hopefully the Wolfpack invitational will grow into a well rounded tournament for both soc- cer and rugby at UNBC as well as encouraging the _ enthusiastic school spirit that was seen at the event. 3 OCTOBER 27, 2004 — I's Playoff Time Again by Adam Hussein >> Staff Writer “Guys... all reds.” A quote from a clueless poker player in the movie Ocean’s Eleven. Now froma clueless fan here comes a look at sports with’ help from the movies. “Oh man, I am going to need some serious therapy after this. Look, look at my eye twitching.” - Shrek This goes to the coach of the Seattle Seahawks. His undefeated team blew a 17-point lead in the last 5 minutes against the Rams, my favorite NFL team. I turned this game off early and missed the comeback win for St. Louis. In other words: I’m an idiot. This also goes to me after the Red Sox forced a game 7 against New York. If Boston wins then I am going to pretend this series never happened. You hear me, it never happened! “Call a meeting, we will have peace.” - The Godfather This one goes to the NHL play- ers and owners. As this lockout. drags on.the fans will not be com-> ing back for a while. Has thé. baseball strike taught us nothing? Ifyou need something to fill the. void left from hockey watch a bunch:-of millionaires do: seme thing else, or watch the CFL. “T hate to break it to you but: denial is not just a river in Egypt.” - The New ‘Guy Yes, the only reason I put that, quote in is because I am Egyptian. It goes to Red Sox fans that despite everything continue to believe in their team. Some peo-" ple call it hope... I call it denial. (Remember, the series. with New York never happened) “The man can’t beat me, if he beats me in a dream he better wake up and apologize.” - Ali The New England Patriots set a record winning 19 straight games, warrants mentioning. My predic- tion: 22 before they lose in- St. Louis. My name is Adam Hussein, and I approved this pre- diction. I realize that is two columns with biased predictions. I will try to stop it... actually... | probably won't. My predictions from last time were good through the 1st round though except I inexplica- bly screwed up on which teams would play each other in the first ‘Listen, here's the thing, if you cant spot the sucker in your first half hour at the fable, then you are thé sucker.” round. (Just switch the Astros and Dodgers in those predictions and it all makes sense.) “Listen, here’s the thing, if you can’t spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.” - Rounders This one is for me: Tuesday Yankees / Boston Game 1: I had 2 midterms Wednesday, so L n@tu- rally spent over three hotrs watching the game. Wednesday Yankees / Red Sox Game 2: I had a midtérm on Thursday, and well, you can guess what I did that night, yes very similar to my Tuesday night. I would, and like- ly will, do it all again. In other words: I’m an idiot. Health & Fitness with Over The Edge by Andrea Brutenic o> Health Columnist Over The Edge is introducing something new with this issue. From now on you can look for- ward to articles related to health and fitness. Over The Edge is going to help you dissolve the mysteries of the active lifestyle. I've been in the health, fitness and sport industry for well over five years as a coach, group fitness instructor, strength and condition- ing coach and as a personal trainer. So if you need tips on how to per- form various exercises or advice on how to destroy that habit that keeps you from adhering to your exercise regimen, open up ‘the pages of Over The Edge. With this first issue, I’d like to bring to your attention the assort- ment of exercise programs ayail- able at the fitness centre, many of which you’ve already paid for with your recreation fee. But first, I'd like to point out the advantages of participating in structured fit- ness programs. In attending a fitness class you have direct access to a certified fit- ness professional. Therefore, if you have any questions about the activity, you have someone readily available to answer your ques- tions. Secondly, a class being super- vised by an instructor assures your safety. If you’re performing an exercise incorrectly, you'll be guid- ed through correct form and tech- nique by your instructor. And finally, going to a class where the program is already designed for you means you show up for class, sweat it out, and get out of there with minimal effort on your part. Your instructor will even make the effort to intensify your workout if they see that you or someone else is not feeling the burn. So what kind of classes can you look forward to the fitness centre? Consider the following: Nia - Neuromuscular Integrative Action...a total body workout. Nia combines poses and movements from Tai-Chi, yoga, martial arts, modern and ethnic dance to create a workout that can be modified for any fitness level. Squash Clinics - Squash is a very dynamic sport that will have sprinting, lunging and swinging all over the court. So if you have that competitive edge, try the clin- ic, learn the rules of the game, and have at it! : Circuit Class - Here’s another total body workout minus the choreography. If you’re one of those people who still haven't managed to gracefully glide through the “grapevine”, try a cir- cuit class where you'll hit every muscle group and squeeze in some cardio too. Cross-country Skiing and Snowshoeing - Did you know the fitness centre offers rentals on cross-country skis and snowshoes? There’s an amazing network of cross-country ski trails just min- utes away from campus, so give these two awesoiie snow sports a go! That’s a wrap for this issue and keep in mind, I'va only mentioned a few of the programs available. Do your mind, body and health a favour and head.-tip to the fitness centre. Finally, if you have any ques- tions regarding health and fitness related issues, stibmit them to Over The Edge and address them to Andrea- Health & Fitness Column.
