SPORTS! PAGE CURLING (Cont'd) Other winners since our last publication are:- GRINNELL TROPHY - (LADIES BONSPIFL) Pat Flanagan Lucy Legros Dianne Forbes Polly Huffman U.S.W.A. TROPHY Rupert McKenzie Mike Greene Joan Rattray Norma Lobbes FIRESTONE TROPHY Archie Onisimchuk Peter Brosseau Laurie Fitzsimmons For the Clinton Bonspiel the Cassiar contingent featured in the prizes without carrying off any major prize. Karl Voss skipped his rink to 3rd in the 2nd event and Rupert McKenzie brought his rink in 3rd in the 4th event. During the bonspieling Cassiar gained a new barber as Joe Fitzsimmons can testify. The ample growth which Joe sported on his departure was conspicuous by its absence on his return, due to the expertize of our Italian barber - no not Guiseppe Gallia but Danny Demitri. KARATE Organized Karate is still continuing despite the departure of J. Millar the Chief Instructor. Jack did such an excellent job for the Club during his stay here, that before his departuce, six people had been presented with belts for the level of their performance, these were:- Eric Williams Orange Eddie Heydanus - Orange George Marriott - Orange Jack Hill - Yellow Frank Cserey - Yellow Jack McCallum - Yellow The graduation of these people enables the club to continue with qualified Instructors and there is a possibility that, in the not too distant future, another Instructor of the calibre of Jack Millar will join the Company. SKIING SKI_MEET '70 Successfully starting, what we hope will become an annual event for Cassiar, was the Ski Meet '70. It was held at the weekend 6f Febr. 21/22, with the Giant Slalom on Saturday and the Slalom Races on Sunday. The Ski Club members and their guests from the Yukon were gathered in the Community Club Party Room for a Social on Saturday evening, which was a lot of fun. A very good time was had by all present and lasted into the early morning, though all the Skiers were up early on the slope that day. Thanks to the McDAme Mountain Ski Club for this enjoyable event. Also we have to thank those from the Yukon, who came down for our Ski Meet '70. Officials of the Yukon Cup deliberating before the medal presentation ceremony. The trouble with being a good sport is that you have to prove it.
